I have a TRE transmission and a Shep transfercase. (TRE doens't rebuild x-fer cases anymore)

Anwho, my trans is great. I have the stage II setup which is quite extensive. I think the only thing that wasn't done was shot-peening the sliders and forks. It shifts like butter and I no longer have the 1-2 grind at high RPM like my stocker had.

My only gripe with TRE is that it's a one man show. Jon does all the work himself and he doesn't have a receptionist so getting ahold of him can be a pain. But once you do he will talk your ear off about transmissions, clutches, fluids etc. He's very knowledgeable and has a great reputation with his builds. From the research I've done buying mine I think TRE's builds replace or strengthen more parts than Shep but I think Shep can do the same at added cost. Ask them what they do during the tear down and build and you'll have a better idea of what you want.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. Call both of them and find out what turn-around time is. They both usually say a week to 10 days depending on how many trannies they have sitting on the bench. TRE also usually has a built one ready to go if you can't have your car down for that long. You can order his built trans, install it and then send him back your stock one for core charge refund. That is what I did and it saved me the hassle of being without a car for a week or more.
