i would try to find some just to put them in there place even if they don't fit they will at least help your clearances..
And ya i'm sure it will work, if fact you may pick up some HP in the cylinder because there will be so much compression. I did the same thing on my 1st gen a few years back, but on of the machine shops welds broke and destroyed the short block so i hope you have a reliable machine shop that welded it!!
