With 18s, I thought you may have gone wider, since 8.5" is very close to stock thus reducing the performance benefits you can realize from having an aftermarket set of rims. With them being 18s and 18" tires always costing more, it would have made more sense to get 9" rims so that you could then use wider tires that improve performance a lot. Even so, 8.5" will get more out of a 255 than the stock rim, so consider a 255/35 if it's available. 245/40 on 17s are not great compared to stock, but on an 18, it's not as bad. 255/35 is closer to stock in all measurements and gives better gearing than stock while 245/40-18 gives worse gearing than stock and is further from stock measurements, although not far off.
