Helmet recommendations

I'd like to get some open track days in this year, and the track I'm planning on going to (Beaver Run) requires the use of a helmet.

What should I look for when choosing a good helmet? I know it has to be Snell compliant according to track regulations, but other than that I'm not sure what to look for.

I stopped today at a motorcycle shop and they had some HJC helmets that were also Snell compliant. I can get a full face model, in solid white and with the addition of a smoked visor, for around $175 with tax. Is this a good brand to look at, or are they primarily for motorcycle riders?

Here's a link to the one I was looking at: HJC helmet

I'm not looking to spend bundles of cash, as I'm probably only going to be using this half a dozen or so times a year, but by the same token I don't want to skimp out when it comes to protecting my noggin!

Any help would be appreciated!

Ya, those are primarily for motorcycle riders. They can be used at the drag strip I go to, have the impact rating, but the difference is in fire safety. The SNELL ratings with the SA prefix are for auto racing and have fire protection.

Thanks for the info - guess I'll have to keep looking then.

I don't mind ordering online, but from what I've read you really need to try a helmet on first to make sure everything fits the way it should, and that even the sizes aren't standardized.

This makes it tough because I don't know of really any places around me that carry this kind of equipment. Need to look around some more to see what I can find for a store near me that would carry these things.

Thanks again!
