The ignorance displaced in this thread just about made my blood boil.
Half of the people in that thread are terrified of leaded fuel...and ignorant of both its advantages AND its disadvantages. These are the people we do NOT want to attract to this site

After reading some posts around there, I can officially say, that the majority of dsm members are wayy more intelligent about cars than evo owners.
I don't even bother responding to dumb threads..
hmm like.. "hey guys! let's start a MR taillight gb.. i want to waste 420 bux for darkened altezzas JDM style with orange turn signals!!!"
or.. "hey, the xxxx guys are talking shitabout the evo.. lets talk shit back"
or.. "ohh your ground wires are soo coool, they add 5 horsepower!! Where can i throw away 175 bux ?!"

I love it, your starting to become more like me... ...but ya, there are still some stupid DSMers out there too...but your right, majority wise, evo owners are worse.
Not on this board though...I think thats cause it is an offshoot of dsmtuners...so all these Evo owners...and soon to be myself...already have a lot of car and tuning experience

i agree i was part of dsmtuners for a while now. i have a 98 gsx and have been tuning for a while and it is a shame to see dumb ass kids talking about tailights and stickers and shit. Well there will always be ignorance!!!! but the true dsmers will prevail!!!!

Nice list of cars there in your sig - I like the way you spend your money
I generally agree that Evo owners are much less informed than DSM owners.
You have to look at who buys these cars though. The EVO is already a $30K car, which assumes the buyer has more disgressionary income than the average DSM owner. In addition, the DSM is more of a hack and tweak type of modding because the income level is lower and 4G63 tuning was fairly new when the 1G and 2G was a current model. To hack and tweak you really have to know what you're doing and dealing with. Ask the average EVO owner what O2 voltage is and he'll give a blank stare. Evo owners are more in the generation X and baby boomer generations, which are already well in their careers or just getting situated. These type of people dont have the time to research on their own and would rather compare products and figure one which ones they want then pay someone to install it, tune it, and tell them how to use it. Also, they dont want to hack and tweak their $30K cars, they'd rather "have it done right".
I'll have to disagree though with the statement that there arent a lot of big power tuned evos. I'm actually amazed how many people are already driving in 375whp, 11 and 12 second evos. Even people that arent motorheads are making big power. I was expecting it to take longer to get people to take their new shiny evos to the track and get dirt and oil all over them.
Also, a lot of owners i've noticed are more magazine racers. They live and breathe what magazines (JDM, UKDM, or USDM) say. I have several friends that bought the Evo because it was tested and it whooped everything at braking, cornering, accelerating and more. The can even quote all the articles in motor trend and car and driver. It's a good car....generally good cars are popular among enthusiasts. Same with the Z06, SRT-4, etc. That's my opinion on the issue.

What people forget here though is, a number of the EVO owners out there used to be DSM owners before they could afford an EVO - probably because they are the first ones to know the potential of a 4G63-powered car. Though some think that the people who own EVOs are a totally different crowd than those who own DSMs, you gotta keep in mind that 5-10 years ago when these EVO owners couldn't afford a $30k car, a decent number of them were probably modding a DSM. Now that they're older and they can afford a $30k car, they know where their money is best spent - and they've sold their DSM to some 18 year old kid. I think many of them are the same GenX and Babyboomers who were modding DSMs 10 years ago.
This explains perfectly why there are plenty of high horsepower EVOs out there already. It's the guys who have already been through the DSM phase, and have moved up to the EVO. Look around at the shops who are making the most power with these cars (like AMS and Buschur) and you'll see what their specialty used to be.
And I'd disagree that modifying a DSM is a "hack and tweak" job. Granted, many of the kids who do modify their DSM these days can't afford to do it right, but that can be said about any kid with any car without proper funds. Modifying any car to run 11's or to race on a track is pretty much a hack and tweak job at some level. The main difference between modifying the EVO and the DSM is that the EVO is a brand new car, which some people will not want to mess with or take a chance with voiding the warranty. For the most part, it's pretty much tuned the same way as the DSM.
Give it time - you'll see more and more EVO's running fast times like the DSMs have been doing for years. The 4G63 is a bad ass powerplant. It shouldn't take long to get these new EVO owners educated.
