im new to to this forum and dont own an evo but plan to get one after i graduate from high school. what should i be looking for when i get one. i was looking at the evo 9 MR

before your dead set on the MR you need to figure out what are you overall goals for the car/

well my goals are to make it quick and go on the track and all the other stuff and i dont really care about looks just performance like in the engine bay. and suspentions and stuff but i dont care about making my car look cool and crap. but yea ive been around a lot of car people like the RX7's and 8's and subarus and have been moding and fixing cars for a long time now but not my cars all friends cars lol but yea i have a set goal but cant really explain it i guess. ive seen how the mr handles on the evo's and i like it and im talking about stock so yea.

for the price difference of a MR to a GSR you can get a nice set of coilovers to make up most of that handling which isnt much. the MR is the heaviest evo and the 6spd does not do so great when making good power. these are all things to consider.

but wouldnt the MR have more top end? and more potential at the end?

No why would it? because it has one more gear? nope. same motor. the 6spd is a weaker transmission when putting power into it. Also who wants to shift one more time if your running it in the 1/4 mile. Contact shep trans and ask them if they will build or rebuild a 6spd mr tranny for you. i havent seen anyone who does. The Mr for 05-06 either evo 8 or 9 the only difference is bilstein suspension, lighter bbs wheels, 6spd transmission, all aluminum roof, gauge package and special MR badging, and Vortex generator with zerolift kit for 06 models. All this can be put on a 5spd evo....or even better and lighter parts for that matter, the 5spd holds power better and its one less gear to shift during certain race events. Its your call but if you want big power go with a 5spd or prepare to buy and have it rebuilt to hold.

I have a 03 evo VIII GSR and a 07 Outlander v-6 loaded. purchasing a X within the next 6 months
