I am looking at an 06 MR it is super clean with low miles (8000) but the interior seems to be incomplete. The exterior is complete minus the lancer badge above the MR badge (zero lift front lip and spoiler flare, bbs split 7-spoke wheels, vortex generator across top). Interior has full leather seats (no suede on seats front or back) I was especially suspicious when I saw this. The door panel insets are wrapped in suede, (Doesn't the leather kit replace the suede with leather on the door panels as well?). The steering wheel is not the 3 spoke momo, which the dealer admits is not factory, he will replace with momo wheel, so no big deal. There is no gauge pack, from what I have read on the MR this is supposed to be there (did any MR editions come without?). The pedals are aluminum racing pedals, they look right. The transmission is a six speed judging by the shifter knob. Overall my main question is, would an MR have come factory like this or does it seem that things have been changed. I want an original MR as would have been sold right off the line with no changes. Any response helps thanks.
My 05 had suede and cloth on the seats and suede on the doors. The leather option I believe is only for the seats so its sounds right. As for the gauges your better off without them. Boost gauge is variable at best, I have seen them be as inaccurate up too 3 psi which is a lot when you really think about it. Just get the gauges you really want and call it a day. As for the shift knob if it has a lift lever to engage reverse its an MR, the gsr 5-speed doesn't have it. Good luck hope this helps and enjoy the evo.
P.S. Invest in a good radar detector and a good laser jammer...They will save you time and time again, they did for me. Even if you don't go flying down the road cops will follow you just because of the wing. Good luck.
That is helpful thank you. You are a gentleman and a scholar. I just want to make sure I am making a good buy, over half of the dealers have falsely claimed that they are offering an MR and the rest are overpricing them by at least a few thousand. The used Evo market is rough.
Honestly the easiest way to tell if its an actual mr is to run the vin#. Trully the only way, cause if anyone really wanted to they could change a gsr to an mr. Also, I hate to say this but if your looking to race your evo eventually you might want to look into a gsr over an mr. The gsr tranny is a lot stronger than the mr tranny. So just some more food for thought. When I bought my mr its blue book value was $28,500 and I walked out paying $28,000 after tax, tag and title. So just keep looking you don't want to jump into anything to soon. Good luck and happy hunting.
Which state are you in? I am from Co. if you are looking in CO. which dealership? My '05 has the full leather package doors and seats.
I live in Grand Junction CO, but I will be driving to Denver to purchase it. The dealership is ADI Autosport. They actually sent me photos of a white 05 that had the leather doors but they didn't look factory, they had quiet a bit of intricate design work to them. Is yours an Mr edition or the Evo VIII with the sun/style/sound package?
punker462606, I am actually just looking for an occasional driver/collectors car, that way if it ends up in a garage for a few years, which it very well may, I have a truely origanal Mr. My 97 Eclipse is my racecar, so any extra money for the mod fund goes to that. Who do I contact for the Vin check? I have already ran the vin through Autocheck.com and they don't specify between evolution models. Under model they just say Lancer EvoMR / Evolution IX. So if I run a vin from an evolution rs it would say the same thing.
if you are looking for a truly orginal MR buy one that has not been modded and is a 1 owner car. It sounds like the one you are looking at has been modded or even wrecked, hence the steering wheel not being a OEM MOMO on with an airbag. That would worry me. Look for these key things in the MR you are looking at-
1. 6spd tranny
2. Mitsubishi gauge package
3. Aluminum roof, no sunroof the roof also looks different from the regular gsr
4. there should be a aluminum/CF ebrake lever and aluminum 6spd shift knob.
5. Center console has a MR badge on it
6. Zero lift kit front underspoiler, air brake cooling guides, Vortex generator, and gurney flap on the rear spoiler.
7. BBS wheels
8. Bilstein shocks all the way around.
9. HIDS and fog lights
Confirm all of this stuff before you purchse. i would not buy a evo that was already modified if your looking for just a collectors car.
I talked to Mitsubishi today they said that the zero lift kit was an extra option and not standard, just for others who may find this post. But if you call them with a VIN# they can tell you whether or not it came with it. As for my hunt I think I am pretty close to settling on a red 06 Evo MR, single owner, 24,000 miles, $25,000 w/ the zero lift kit, a couple scratches but nothing that can't be fixed. Thanks for everyones help. Still never settled the question of the leather package and what that all entails and whether the gauge pack is standard, the used car dealer said he has seen many without. But he's just a dealer right.
The gauges are standard in a evo MR. Also the leather seats, were they all leather like the SSL seats or where they Leather on the outside bolsters and a suede kinda material on the inside part?
I wouldn't buy it just because it has been messed with, Not having the OEM steering wheel is a biggie for me. It sounds like it was a salvage check the carfax. If its not a salvage it could have just been repaired with out insurance so it wasn't reported. I would look for another one. Also dont just trust that its a 6spd by the knob actually get in it and shift threw the gears even check reverse. Also the center console around the shifter is different in the MR's. It sounds fishy to me and i would not buy it at all. see if they know who the previous owner is.
I backed out of talks with the dealership about a week ago and have been perusing another car, I was keeping this going more for my own information and future reference, and I guess that little flicker of hope that this car was good enough to buy, it looks super clean and has super low miles. I should have went with my gut and backed off sooner than I did. I have learned more about this car in the last week than I had the last year of reading about it drooling on the screen wishing I could get one. Like I posted above my current talks are for a red 06 MR, one owner, 24000 miles with a couple minor scratches. Way better price though. The one I was going for is on adiautosports.com, silver with about 8500 miles. Steer clear of these guys they have a lot of Evos but will tell ya anything to get you to buy one, and way overpriced.
I know your our west from me but check out cbrdspeedfactory.com they sell evos and are a awesome performance shop. They only sell the best of the best. When I go to purchase another one it will be from them.
