I think there are two voltages because when you are at wot it charges the battery more, therefore running at aprox. 14 volts, normal driving it is probolly getting around 12 volts. Just my half ejumacated thought, maybe not though.

I don't know, I know they sell a 255 for an EVO so if you find a good enough pic you could compare the 2.

The EVO has a fuel management system that runs the pump at 12 volts for low load conditions and 14 volts at high load conditions.

ya, as long as the car is on...even at idle, the alternator should produce around 14v...if it isn't then you have a problem.

i registered just to tell you this... the evo 8 motor is also positioned differently in the engine bay than the eclipse 4g63 motor. trust me, if they were as similar as you all think, id have one in my car right now.

Ummm, it is the same damn block there Jive.... just rotated 180 deg. Why would you want to swap out your block for an identical one? Only difference is the rods and pistons.... and if you are going to that much trouble just getting some aftermarket rods and pistons for your current engine would be cheaper and easier.

i gotta go look again, but im pretty sure there is a difference with the exhaust manifold as well, and its location on the block, but im not 100% sure. plus, the valve cover looks a lot cooler than the old 4g63 valve cover.

edit...
yeah, the exhaust manifold would be on the wrong part of the block if im not mistaken... look at this picture.

even though the exahust manifold is in the same part of the engine bay on the eclipse, the orientation of the evo 8 block would make it quite a job, if not impossible to swap into an eclipse. oh, the bottom end on the evo 8 motor is also all forged, i think, but im not 100% sure about that, ill do some reasearch and let you know.

it would be much cheaper to build up your current 4g63 then to swap an EVO one in...that way you'd also have a safer engine and be able to make even more power...

That would be the HEAD that the exhaust manifold is mounted to, not the block. The EVO block has the same crank shaft as the DSM's (that was the only forged part in the DSM rotating assembly), but has forged rods. It has cast pistons like the DSM's, just a higher compression ratio. Like I said, you can use an EVO block in your DSM without a problem, just bolt your stock head onto it and off you go..... but it would still be cheaper to build up your stock engine.

i misunderstood you then, my bad. it would be cheaper to just build my block up, and i probably will when i hit 100k miles, or ill just save my money, sell my car, and get an evo rs (as long as i can add the ac, power windows, and locks as an option) or get a used evo. depends on which is cheaper at the time.

edit...
wouldnt the evo8 bottom end be better for driving my car at 20psi during normal daily driving? it seems like if you get what they made at the factory it would be more reliable.

Hell, I ran 20 psi on a daily basis on the stock bottom end of my Galant VR-4 without any problems.

BTW, why get an RS and then add everything that would make it a standard EVO? Just get the regular EVO, pull off the wing and sell it to someone and paint the door handles
