Question balance shaft questions.

hey so i was racing a turbo 240 and kicking the piss out of him till i hit some snow build up on the center of the road and my car died, got to checking everything, and the crankshaft position sensor was broken, so i waited a week for that to come in, go to put it on and notice a little belt in the back of the engine was broken, my guess was the oil pump but i guess not, a mitsu tech told me it was a balance shaft belt? could some one please tell me what this does and what would happen if i just left the belt off? should i replace the belt with a oem one or just go with an eliminator kit for it? please any help would be great the evos been down for a couple weeks and its getting bored...

its up to you what you do but i wouldn't drive it without either a new belt or the eliminator kit. with the kit it will make more vibrations and make a couple HP.
