Hey,
I just bought my Evo today actually and am noticing that every time I engage the clutch while moving, the tach will go down below normal idle and cut off. I have to tap the gas in order to prevent from stalling every stop sign/light. Anyone else having this problem?

what are the mods on the car, you have a leak, Crappy BOV (not adjusted right), or many other little things. Mine does it because of my BOV and cams. but all this can be tuned out, its just a pain sourcing it out. post up a mod list and maybe i can shed some light.
I just bought the car last Friday and from what I can tell (which I'm VERY inexperienced when it comes to Turbo engines) it is bone stock. Yea, I have been looking for performance shops around the area so I can tune it. Have to wait till I get out of the field though
also, I was driving around some turns and noticed that in 2-4th gears the turbo will max out at like 17psi and the wastegate/BOV will go crazy and fluctuate. while in 5th gear it doesn't do that.

^^ i disagree. Only because i know for a fact that you need 5th gear to reach top speeds.......especially in a evo9 gsr since 4th gear is done by 96mph.....
Its not just in the tune its the overall setup of the Boost control solenoid from the factory....You def need a tune but also need a MBC or ECU controlled boost to raise PSI, but with this you need fuel and a tune for above 20psi or so (Every car is different). 17psi is normal on a stock evo. They spike 19 and taper to 17psi. MBC will fix that.
^^what i mean is that he shouldnt be flat out boosting right off the bat in 5th, now if hes about to redline in 4th, thats a different story. And as for getting a MBC or going ECU controlled boost I totally agree. Im running 23psi on ECU controlled boost and only tapering to 21psi. IMO ECU controlled boost is the way to go.
ecu controlled boost with a good solenoid and tune should have not taper. This is my next mod. You can boost in 5th if you want it really wont have any effects from what i have seen/experienced. I run 24.5psi on mine daily, with a solid tune and my AFR is great with +1900 CFM. I love boost! ECUflash+Evo X Map sensor+ Upgraded solenoid + Great Tune= awesome power and no taper!
Im definately going to disagree with you on this lol. ECU controlled boost is still going to taper. Just not as much as a MBC will taper. On my MBC, I was running 23 psi and tapering to about 18-19 psi. ECU controlled boost hits harder, earlier. I hit full boost at about 3300-3400 rpm.
I run the new Grimmspeed BCS. Others that I know who use the GM solenoid or other aftermarket BCS, still taper.
I only know from my tuner's car and there is no taper with the stock turbo and ecu controlld boost. It can be done properly for about $150 not including the tuning. EVo X map sensor and the right solenoid. I know the solenoid he is using is not one of the main stream ones

So then he is probably running 22 psi then right???
funny story, I took the car to meet up with Cory and Dave here in Springs cuz Cory is going to tune my car once my WideBand o2 comes in. Well, they both took a look under the hood and was saying the the previous owner installed a Buschur exhaust and intake system with the intercooler piping. Once we get to tuning my car and get it up on the machine we can take a closer look and let everyone know. It's funny, because the insurance I'm paying for is a MR, but no 6-speed; it has a 5-speed tranny.
