couple questions on evos

just about to buy an evo, its an 05 metallic blue, but any ways a couple questions, i come from the bad side of subaru having 2 wrx before, they were great cars but i just had bad luck with them soo hopefully changing to an evo soon.

whats the best type of intake for an evo, i know that most if not all cold air intakes are a bad idea, due to the length of pipes and the bends and what not, physics isnt on its side, soo whats the best type, not brand but type? short ram? CAI?

whats usually the best first mod? i know a drop in K&N Filter would be good. but i also read the stock bov is only good for 13 psi, but the car pushes 20 psi, soo would a new bov, recirculating ofcourse be a good mod? would i need a tune??

The best place to start is the exhaust; cat back, HFC/test pipe, and downpipe.
The stock air box with a K&N panel works very well. Your money will also reap more power with a boost controller than with an inake at this point.
A Mitsubishi metal/Evo IX BOV will go a long way for you and hold boost;

Tune it some how some way and...

I wouldn't worry about intakes before getting the car - they're not really needed.

For an VIII, the most effective first mods are:
- Turboback exhaust
- MBC
- BOV (fully-recirculating DV like the one Larry mentioned)
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- Custom Flash!

Here's the package I created that has all those parts. It's just an example of some of the best individual brands for each of the parts listed above, but you can certainly piece together your own brand preferences:

No, the JDM MR DV would not require any tuning. It's a highly-recommended replacement mod for the stock plastic BOV. Just be sure to refer to it as the JDM MR DV, not JDM BOV, because the non-MR JDM Evos got plastic BOVs, too. Another tidbit is that the USDM IX DV is identical to the JDM MR DV, so you can usually find those used for cheap.

Just got mine (for my 3000GT) for $60 and it looks like the guy removed it from the car the day it came off the car lot... perfect condition.
