Crank Walk

Alright you DSMers. I'm trying to help my buddy out who just bought a 97 Talon TSI. He had it inspected by and they told him that he has a slight crank walk. He looked it up and is freaking out because he keeps reading that people are having to do engine swaps.. He says he's not experiencing any of the symptoms of crank walk but still they told him he had it and now is afraid to modify anthing. My question is what experience has anyone had with this. Is there hope?

the only thing I would recommend first is to make sure the rubber hasnt seperated on the balancer allowing the pulley to walk, without the actual crank walking. If that is not the problem, I would tell him to start saving money to either have his bottom end rebuilt/upgraded first. I think dsmtuners has a lot more info on how to check and or repair crankwalk.

Hey, Darwin's, EvoTuners is just a little brother of the 80,000 member DSMTuners, which is the site that began it all. There's a mountain of info there on this subject if you want to take a look.
