DSM vs EVO

I did a lot of reading and searching and didn't find the answer to this question so I am going to ask. I just recently got rid of my heavily modified DSM, and now trying to get my paws on a EVO. I have my eyes set on a 03 thats local to me. Anyway in all the reading that I found I saw a lot of my fellow DSM'rs getting into the EVO.

Why is it that in the stage 1, and stage 2 nobody is really changing the turbo out? FPGreens out of the question? Also why no mention of Walbro 255, injectors, and such. Will the stock fuel system in the evo hold 22psi+ with safc? Can I use the MAFT setup on an evo? What are the limitations of the stock fuel system/spark?

Has anyone done anything with VPC setup, AEM stand alone, palm pilot data loggin?

Thanks for any input you guys can give me.

The stock turbo is very capable, 350whp+, so it meets the needs of many. As of now, compaired to DSM's, our bolt on turbo upgrades are limited because of the reverse scroll and stock divided exhaust housing/manifold. Most turbo upgrades require a tubular manifold and O2 housing which increases the price. I think within the next five years there will be a good bolt on turbo.
The stock fuel system can support 22psi, but run 92/93 oct. just to be safe. In our tech guide, the last step is bigger injectors and a 255 pump, but it needs to come sooner and definately before cams.
I came from a 2g Eclipse and I'm using the the same AFC-II, cheap'o palm with palm'n'stein, the same OBD-II cable, and it works great. It's just like a 2g.

Is the stock Evo turbo equivilant to a EvoIII 16g?
Can you make 350hp on stock fuel system? I made 350hp easy on my dsm and looking forward to a lot higher numbers with my soon to be evo.

Thanks for the reply on the differences. I am not real pleased to hear that the turbo is facing the wrong way and I am going to be limited on my turbo upgrades, as that is one of the first things I wanted to swap out. Thanks for the input though, and I will post pics of my new evo.

According to his posts DSMotorsport's yellow evo is running solid 11's on the stock fuel system though he did swap out to a 1g ignition system.

The evo turbo is better than the evo3 16g as stands to reason from the fact that it's now on the 8 compared to the evo3. There are guys making over 400 on pump, but that shouldn't be used as a guideline, just illustrates what is possible.

There are plenty of affordable bolt on turbo upgrades, even considering that you'll need to swap out the manifolds. The aftermarket is very strong for the evo's, though the bolt on options seem to be limited to the TME and the white rabbit turbos at the moment if you're looking for a comparison like a t28 for a stock 2g upgrade. Another consideration is upgrading to a 10.5 hotside for the tubo which has an improved wastegate design. However, this is all somewhat of a moot point if you're looking for -much- higher than 350hp.

In any event, if you liked your dsm, you'll have a lot of fun with your evo as well.

Here's a comparison of all the evo turbos.

I remeber reading about a member of evolutionm who was running 11.6 in the 1/4 with the stock turbo.

last i heard curt brown was cutting 10.3's with the stock turbo. But unless you're gifted with the same unnatural ability as him, I'd say mid 11's is definately do-able with the proper mods on a stock turbo. A number of guys are acheiving those results.

The best Curt did on the stock turbo was 10.9xx He has since swapped out to a larger turbocharger. For your average driver with ever bolt on known to man other than a larger turbo, the stock turbo will get you into the high to (if you car really drive) mid 11's.

Later,

Keith

Yes I sold my DSM and Got me an 05 EVO. I kept the Pocketlogger and looking into getting another SAFC. Not too fond of the SAFCII. First thing I did to the Evo was just open up the Exhaust with an RNR Turbo back. My old name on dsmtuners was td06hkiko. ahahaha. Can believe I got an evo...
