Evo 8 Tuned??

Hi guys, just picked up my 04 evo. Here's what it came with: evo 9 bov and exhaust. Now it looks to me as if the dealer welded on the stock cat to pass smog because it had tbe. So I just bought another downpipe and high flow cat so i can do the stage 2. But now im starting to think it may already be tuned for stage 2 because i ran my car with open downpipe and i dont know, i may be wrong, but i heard that the check engine light should turn on when running your car with no sensor or cat being untuned? Is this correct? Or whats the easiest way you can figure out if its tuned or not?

Its probably tuned. The way you can find out is go to a reputable tuner, have him pull the ROM from your ECU, and tell you whats up.

CEL may or may not come on with no cat. if there is no sensor it should not have passed inspection. we really dont have the staged mods thing on the evos. get a custom tune, not a accessport or a mail in flash, have a tuner who knows what they are doing help you out and make the map to suit your mods, this will save you time and headache down the road. just because we have the same mods doesn't mean our tunes should be the same. Not all cars are equal to.
