Greedy Turbo Timer + Fog lights?

I just found my fog lights switch (user manual ftw!), really could have used that during the blinding near-white-out snow storm the other day. I was playing with it and left it on just for s&g, for about a 50 mile drive, and doing the followed-by-a-cop 29.5mph in 2nd gear thing (but with no boost) for the last 3-4 miles. When I got home the TT took over 7 minutes before it shut down the car.

Then last night, I put the fog lights on again, and it started happening again, doing some light rural-to-freeway-to-rural driving. When I drove home again, I left the fog lights off and the turbo timer behaved normally. Anybody got any ideas? The worst case would be that the fog lights really are causing the turbo to overheat. But I don't see how that'd be possible. Is the turbo timer possibly drawing power from the fog light power and messing it up? Thanks for ideas.

1st- its Greddy......
2nd how is your Turbo timer hooked up? Is it set to auto time or a pre-determined time? set it for 40secs. and leave it. Do not use the auto timer if this is a issue for you. It calculates do to rpms how long to run for. Your fog lights should have no effect on your TT at all. I think it's just a coincidence. My Greddy TT acts up sometimes and resets itself to 0, no big deal. TT are overrated. Just drive normal for the last couple of miles before turning off the vehicle, this lets air cool down the whole system instead of the car just sitting at idle hoping the fan is on....

I have never had a problem with my greddy turbo timer. I have the auto time hooked up but the most I ever let it cool down is 3 minutes. I just use it to play with it trying to get it as high as I can then I just reset it when I get to were i'm going. I have no idea why it only happens when you fog lights are on cause I keep mine on and I have never run across this problem. Just looks over the wires again and see if the harness is really close to the fog light wiring harness, maybed a voltage spike is passing through the wires causing the timer to think the rpm is high and it is therefore increasing the cool down time. Good luck hope this helps.

Greddy, sorry. Google fools me every time on that one. Anyway, the mechanic thinks it was just the mode button getting hit on the TT, but what I see is the cool down time spiking whenever the fog light switch is engaged.

Huh, thanks. That would make sense with what I saw it doing. I'm having the shop check it out today, I'll see what they find.

like i said TT can be over rated. just set a predetermined time and run it that way, see if you still have these issues.

Thanks, apparently it was just the mode button getting hit and doing something weird. I was just really concerned about the turbo overheating and getting blown so I wanted to see what people thought. Every time I hear a squeak or a rattle or a grind I get concerned that something too expensive for me to replace any time soon is going to go. I appreciate everybody's input and helpfulness a lot.
