identifying evo8 MR engine???

Hi guys, and shop in my area is selling me an EVo8 engine and were not sure if its the MR or just the GSR....is there a way of verifying it, doe the MR engine have any marks or things that we can look at to identify the engine?

Also what is the main difference between the MR engine and the GSR engine?

.................................................. ......

There is no difference in the engine. The difference is in the transmission.

Evo 9's have MIVEC. Evo 8's dont.

There is no difference in the motor, if you have a VIII and buy a MIVEC motor you are screwed. If the valve cover does not say MIVEC and you think it is still from a IX then pull a plug. VII will have a copper plug and IX will have a iridium. It is that easy
