Increasing Torque

I was wondering some good ways to increase torque in these cars.

Basically I am looking for better acceleration prior to the turbo spooling.

Seems like a good way from what I have seen to do this is from tuning, and cam gears?

stroker!

but there are other ways.... cheaper too. but they go hand in hand with turbo spool. E85 increases it also usually having more TQ than Hp also.

not so much cam gears but from cams, LICP, Intercooler, tune, exhaust. not in that order either. its up to you, I have heard the argument that you don't need cam gears, I have heard u do.

yeah, well stroker too...

i have 272s, full turbo back exhaust and a mail-in tune

i do not know much about cam gears, i just thought that they were mostly to shift the power around...take away horsepower and add torque for example

oh, and no meet for me

The cams gears are not going to do that. the Tq will rise with the new mods you do. Get a IC next. Then get a tune from Lucas at carz. we have a tune meet coming up on the 4th and it really cheap like 65 bucks i think.

To raise the TQ and HP you need to modify the car. There is no one special mod that will add just TQ. Cam gears add little to zero Hp. I read somewher that a tuner got 5 hp out a car after fooling with them. but for the most part they don't add HP or TQ.

Add meth after the IC or a shot of NOS and that will get the numbers up there!

well what i am trying to accomplish is not neccesarily to have as much peak torque as possible, but to have it come sooner

for example, in this one the torque comes low

while in this one it comes later, as it takes 500 more revolutions to make the same amount of torque as the first one

one thing that i am noticing is that the evo ixs are doing pretty much what i want

i am guessing that has to do with the mivec?

Not to mention you're compairing a car (IX no less) at sea level on a DynoJet to another car (VIII) at ~5500ft above sea level on a SuperFlow.

This isn't exactly what I'd call apples to apples...

Cam gears on an VIII will move your powerband but won't really give you much by way of torque/hp. You can affect how fast the turbo spools by advancing the intake cam a few degrees but you'll sacrifice some top end numbers. I currently have my cams set at -4/0

True that Justin,
My first tune was with a LICP and a MBC, plus a cold air intake. That is it. not bad up here.

my mods are:

-Megan Racing 3" Turbo Back Exhaust
-Megan Racing O2 Housing
-Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller @ 21psi
-Brian Crower Stage 2 (272) Cams...intake and exhaust
-Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
-K&N Drop-in Filter
-DynoFlash eTune

not sure what I am running right now for horsepower and torque, will bring it too a dyno soon hopefully

I am not really close to anything, anything at all...especially a dyno

All your mods look great.....except for you choice of tuner. Please allow someone local to do a proper custom tune and reap the benifits of all your mods.

actually, Al would be a local tuner to him. not saying that you should continue with him, getting a full road tune will be much better for you.

Well, since he has tuned it there has been a huge difference (in a good way)...

I was just mostly wondering how to have as much torque as early as possible, and for as long as possible. But since he has tuned it(which was yesterday when I received the maps) I have been able to feel a lot more torque earlier, and longer....

But I guess it is hard to really fine tune it without a dyno, but I am going to look around a little, I think the closest one is about 200 miles away from where I am.

Just make sure you always go back to the same Dyno for the tunes and up grades so you get the real upgrade numbers. Happy hunting Chris.
