Looking to buy an Evo, wondering which year to buy
Hey guys I'm new here, and don't yet have an Evo. My question is this: I'm looking to buy an Evo IX, and I know that it was made from 2006-2007. However, looking around craigslist and what not, I'm not seeing any that were actually made in 2007.
Is this true, were IX's only made in 2006 and there just wasn't any activity until 2008 when the X came out? I'm looking to buy the latest version of the IX that I can find.
IMO, i think the IX is more track oriented than the X. The X has more comfort features and a better crash rating. The X was also given AYC (Active Yaw Control) where as the VIII's and the IX's did not have it. There are a few shops that have made big power thus far with the X whereas there are plenty of big power IX's out there. Im not saying that big power isnt possible with the X though. This is all for starters on the differences.
If you search the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in wikipedia, there is a brief general history of all the Evos starting with the first. It should help with a general idea being that all the differences for the IX and the X are too much to type in one post on here. But feel free to ask more questions as you have them.
What do you plan to do with the Evo when you buy one (build/track, build/DD, stock/DD)?
Ok, so it's sounding like the 2006 is the one to go with. Do you guys have recommendations for SE vs MR? I'm thinking I'd like the 6 speed manual that the MR provides.
Also, one thing to consider is getting an '03 VIII, is there any reason to consider this model? Does it matter that the car would be 6-7 years old or are Evo's pretty reliable?
I have a 03 with 167k on it stock turbo, motor, trans, and tc. works great for me!you should choose the model for features your looking for and your goals. Do you want to build a all out race car with big turbo? or a decent street machine with moderate power?
so let's say I get an Evo totally stock and I want to add basic bolt ons, looking for HP around 310-320- nothing mega. Where do I go for that? I'm guessing the local jiffy lube wouldn't be able to do the service...
please never take your car to jiffy lube, any of them if you wanna contiune driving it..... Look once you add basic bolt ons you will want more so just get a regular evo with a 5spd and see what happens.
Changing your own oil is EXTREMELY easy. And cheaper! The car takes 4.5-4.75 quarts of Mobil1 full synthetic 10w-30. If you buy 5 quarts and a Mobil1 oil filter at Advanced Auto, that's like 40-50 bucks. Where as Jiffy Lube charges near 80 and thinks the Evolution gets 5.2 quarts.
Anyways, basic bolt one are pretty basic and easy to install, and if you run into something you don't know how to do, just post up. SicLanEvo and I have done our share of installs lol.
