Need Evo professionals help!

Ok, I'm thinking about buying a 2003 Evo VIII with cash and then selling it. I'm not trying to sell it to anyone on here, so don't think I'm advertising or anything. I'm just looking for opinions on if it's worth it or not and can I make money off of it.

It's a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII with 71,000. It has an aftermarket exhaust which I think is Greddy but could be HKS. It has an aftermarket intake, which is the HKS bubble-looking filter. It has a purple aftermarket blowoff valve. The carbon fiber blade is peeling on the top, and there is a chip of paint off the hood, as well as the black paint chipping under the black mesh on the hood. It also has an a pillar with three gauges, although the A pillar is loose where the top screw should be holding it in place. The Gauges do work however, the top gauge shows the air to fuel ratio and indicates with a orange light if it has a leak, stock(I think it was a different word than stock), or rich. Also the leather on the top of the momo steering wheel is almost coming off on the top right side. It also has a sunroof.

Now here's the part that I don't know about. The check engine light is on, and the lady told me it's because the turbo timer and nitrous are hooked up to it O.o My step dad and all his friends are mechanics so of course I could have them look at it inside and out if the lady lets me.

It does have a clean title and has only had 1 owner. I am planning on buying it for 14,000 cash (that's after taxes, title, and everything), and planning on selling it for a little more. If there's anything I left out please ask! Thank you!

Hi There, I can answer some of your questions. Usually Greddy Exhaust systems or Hks has logo's of their company on their exaust tip somewhere. Hks filters make power but their filters are not recommended for daily use because they get used up very often and you'd have to replace them more often then K&N filters. The purple aftermarket blow off valve could be a hks super sequential one which isn't recommended on Evo's at all unless it's been recirculated somehow. The EvoIX's, Evomr diverter blow off valves(Stock) are best; U.S Blow off valves are plastic, JDM are metal. You can also go to your nearest Autozone or tuner to find out what the check engine lights are for. You can also check it if anybody you know has a scanner(nearest auto parts store should have one). From what you've mentioned above, the cars not in excellent condition obviously; I would list it as fair; needs some minor work when I search up the car values under Kelly Blue Book. You can go to Kelly Blue Book on the internet to find out the retail, private and for what it's worth. My best bet is to sell it to a private buyer because you can get more out of it because of the aftermarket mods on the Evo. Dealer's don't care about any non-oem parts added to the vehicle; all they care about is mileage and how the car's condition is overall. You can probably get about $16-17k outta it if the right buyer comes along. Majority of people who would want an evo prefer buying a oem one though. Good Luck and I hope I helped answer some of your questions.

Ok i have a couple of issues with your statement, I'm not bashing but trying to give good information. HKS SSQV is not Purple you can buy a purple insert for a sound change, but if its a purple BOV it could be numerous BOV's Greddy, Tial, or even a cheap ebay knock off. As far as the Check engine light being due to a turbo timer and nitrous this is incorrect, unless some retarded child did it and hooked like 20 different wires together. a turbo timer in my experience and I think mostly everyones will not cause a CEL. As for nitrous the CEL could be a result of nitrous use, damageing certain parts of the motor. Also to the OP if it has 71k on it do you know if all the 60k matience was done? hows the clutch? hows the Transfercase? If you are seriouly trying to resell this vehicle a dealer will give you around 10 if that. As for a private buyer yeah 16 or 17k is a decent price but if it is someone who is doing there research just from what you posted they would not even test drive it. You may have a lot of mechanics in your family but that doesn't cover the cost of the high dollar parts that are known to be issues with used evos. The evo is a great car as long as it was well maintained, which this one just sounds abused.

Everything else was correct, I presume.
Before even trying to sell it for a higher price, at least make sure it's tuned right, etc. Sounds like it needs alot of work($$$$) done before selling it above $14k. G/L

Yeah man everything else was pretty much on the ball, like i said i wasn't bashing just try to inform.

I do agree that this car sounds like there are major issues they are just making little excuses for. I do think you are going to spend a lot of money trying to make money of this vehicle. Hell I would sell mine for cheaper then that, i have a lot of miles but Mine only has very minor cosmetic issues. My motor is perfect and tuned great but does need a tranny rebuild to shift very fast. Rebuild coming soon!

Yea, My car's wouldn't be in good condition if I were to sell it either. I've gotta work on brake pads, timing belt replacement and my sunroof doesn't work plus a passenger side mirror that got ripped off by a walking deer's head I tried to avoid. Other then that, it's boosting
