newbie w/ vishnu questions

hey im very new to the evo scene i just picked up an 03 evo VIII and i noticed everything was stock "NOW" except for the vishnu xede unit. I noticed a green light comes on when i have the car running and there is a toggle switch to the left of it above the ecu and when i flip that it turns red. I was wondering if red was off green was on? or is that flipping between different maps? also since the xede unit is installed does that mean that Xflash was done? theres a sticker on the xede unit " stage1 93 oct." hopefully someone can help me, thanks alot

Yes, the switch changes between two maps, but that doesn't necessarily means the ECU was reprogrammed.
Contact Vishnu or the original owner ASAP.

Who did you buy the car from?

yeah, thats the problem i baught it from a dealership, so contacting the original owner is almost impossible, what would be the easiest way to find out if the ecu is chipped or not?

There's no "chip" for the Evo, but the ECU might have been reprogrammed for who knows what mods and level of performance. IMO it's not worth the hassel of trying to find out what's on there. Take back to the dealership, demand that they remove the "unknown illegal smog tampering device" they sold you, and demand the ECU be flashed back to stock. That way there's no guess work and you can start fresh.

Did you find out what it's tuned for? If not, your gambling with your motor. However, SBR does have Stage I short blocks good for 500whp for a little over $3500 and stock heads for $1300.

Find out ASAP(!) what's on that ECU, or have it reprogrammed tomorrow, so you can make it down the road.

Whoa! You can't see how it would hurt to have a tuning device with parameters set for a combination of mods that you don't have? You could easily blow your engine at any time, because you have no idea what tune is in there and no idea what mods it's designed for. You have nothing to lose by going to the dealership, telling them to flash you to stock, and then to remove the Xede AND GIVE IT TO YOU. You could hang on to it and use down the road if and when you mod, or you could sell it used for about $500. Sounds like a safe bet to me...

I don't know why you didn't immediately contact Vishnu directly to ask them what you should do. They would be able to help you far more than we ever could.
