Performance potentials between different EVOs?

Alright, ive saved up 10K for a down payment on a car, i searched the forum and didnt find the answer im looking for, and the question is this. Do evos between different models like RS and MR have different performance potentials, like little things or big things, does the extra gear on the MR help for highway cruising, because i was in my friends evo at 80mph in 5th in a regular evo and it was at 4K rpms<--rather loud for cruising and like does the MR require more work for getting higher horsepower, can the tranny hold up to as much power etc? i know its a lot to ask but it will mean the world to me in helping me buy what it is i truely want.

thanks in advance

If your looking for all out power in the future don't bother with an mr. The 6-seed is weaker than the 5-speed. The mr with cruise at 3k at 70mph in the 6 gear. You will get better fuel economy but if you you will have to worry about breaking gears. As far as performance aspects they are about the same between the models its more of what options and trim levels you want. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Just to throw it out there the new evo x has had fantastic results from just tuning, no parts, not even a boost controller just a repacement boost pill. Hope this helps.

You should search some......

if your looking for all out performance then get a RS. If you want some amentiies get the GSR. The evo X is a great car and handles great, makes great power with basic bolt ons and tuning. The Evo X is heavier then previous models. if you are looking at getting a turbo car then modding and worried about sound don't look into a evo. Any of them with 3" exhaust are loud almost any turbo with a full 3" exhaust is loud. Hope this helps some. How much are you looking at spending? and what are your goals with the car?

The Mr does not require more work to make power but to hold high power you will need a tranny rebuild. The MR is the same motor as the others the chassis gets some different add ons then the rs or gsr. Was your friends evo modified at all? Every stock evo I have drove including the 8, 9 and X are quiet above 80mph. the X is even quietier compared to the 9 because of more sound deading material.

thanks for the helpful info, i have enough to buy an MR but just because i can buy the "more" expensive one i wanted to make sure it fits my application, my goal is driveability/performance/comfort, i will always sacrifice comfort for performance like it being really loud just cruising but my overall goal would be 800awhp someday way down the road, my friends was tastefully moddified to 453 at the wheels on the stock turbo(EVO IX), another friend of mine also had a stock EVO X but i like the looks of the older models, plus i dont like the EVO X MR cause its a paddle shift, no fun at all, evo VIII or IX is what i will prolly get. In short Power is my ultimate goal, so the Mr doesnt sound like the one for me. but then again, how much power are we talking til the 6speed cant take anymore?

well they very and start to lose reliablility over 400-450awhp. anything slightly modded with mild boltons is loud. The X is a great car you could get a regular GSR if you wanted the new model, or you could just buy my EVO 8 already modded so I can buy a evo X, lol.

On a side note no matter what Evo X is coming soon to my driveway!
