Stealthy performance

On the Buschur forum he mentioned a number of exhaust configurations that he tried to quiet a customer's car. When he placed his bullet muffler where the cat was and put his Maganflow in the normal rear position, the car was very quiet. I am duplicating this setup right now. The converted bullet muffler should arrive this week. It will go on immediately to my Buschur stage 2 car. The standard Buschur Magna is not a loud system by any measure.

As for intake noise, conical filters do have more filter area and have been reliably reported to make more power. However, when I got my last custom tune I notices that a lifting light throttle surging was present. I had this with my stage 2 Evo VIII and blamed it the whole time on some odd miss match between the TME turbo and my Forge adjustable DV. I could never get rid of it. Now I live in a gated community and all the suckung and farting from the conical filter intake made me feel conspicuois. So, I put the OEM airbox back on the car. I very much appreciated the dranatic reduction of noise. As a bonus the light throttle stumble or surge went away as well. I ask two super tuners about this and neither answered my inquiry. Suffice it to say that the OEM airbox/MAF calibration is a good one. Buy Wix Gold paper filters and change them offen. The difference between these and the so called performance/cleanable filters will bw minimal.

When we change our cars for more performance, we need to count the cost in noise, drivability, and suitability for what the car is used for. Someone who trailers his car to the drags will clearly have different goals compared to myself who sits in rush hour traffic with 91 octane in 110 degree heat during in the summer months.

Surging is not caused by the intake - it's caused by a strong BOV. You just don't hear it with the stock airbox in place, but it should still occur if the same BOV and driving style is being used.
