I've been reading about folks shifting at 1,500, 2,000, 2,500RPM so I decided to give it a shot for the sake of curiosity. FWIW, once the oil temp is up (not water temp), I usually shit between 5-6,000RPM, almost never dipping below 3K, so this was a very interesting experiment.

Shifting between 1.500-2,500RPM leaves the car with virtually no power to get out of its own way. Worse, the Evo feels like it struggles to maintain smooth operation, as its revs are barely above idle. Shifting that low left me as a rolling roadblock, creating a somewhat dangerous situation in the process. Really, I can't think of why one, temped to do the same, would own an Evo, outside of his poseur tendencies, and not opt for a vehicle better suited for this exercise.

If I'm shifting to save on gas, I usually do so around 3000rpm, just before the stock turbo kicks in. Otherwise, I agree with you, who would drive an EVO to shift that close to idle??? Good question...

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I, too, shift at 3-3500RPM once in a while, as I wait for the car to warm-up. The car feels like it has a cruise ship boat anchor tied to it.

Yeah I shift 3500ish driving around town. or if i get bored driving around town I shit at 6000 lol

Just keep the boost from building period. You can shift at any RPM with out building boost it just takes more time to get there. just slowly go throught he RPMs and it will not build boost.

What fun is it and why own an Evo with that in mind. To be clear, I couldn't give a flying fruck about saving gas. If I wanted to drive like a pensioner, I would have bought something else. Read my post.

So I guess you are asking a ? some where then because I thought it was about how to help save gas and then you tell me to read you post. So Just ask the question then? What are you wanting to know. You can still get power out of these cars with out building boost. I don't do it but I did do it once because I want to see what gas milage I got I got 350 on a tank once. that is all highway.

There was no question, but it hardly matters now. I guess actually reading what was said is a bit too much to ask.

I shift between 2500 and 3000. You want to know why? Because if i dont then I will most likely be speeding and on top of that I am saving gas. Now you might think why did you get your evo right, the answer is simple. I do not have to gear down on highway when I want to pass someone, I like how fast it is, I like the fact that you can do to it anything you want and I just like it. You dont have to shift at 6k just going to work or the store. You do have to shift at 7k when you see STI and someone worth while who is messing with you. Not everyone is a race car driver here like you are.

It's SO BAD for your engine/transmission to shift at low RPMs! It forces it to work harder to get the RPMs up, but you never really do cuz then you make your next shift. Which makes your engine constantly work harder, an' puts a lot of load on your tranny. You're better off shifting at about 3k rpm to save A L'il gas. The "power band" is at about 5.5k-6.5k, which won't save gas, obv'. Normal shifting for me is in between 3.5k and 4k, 'round town. But yeah, 6k-7k when I'm "leanin'" on some foo'!

As far as it being bad to the engine and trans I am not sure about but it is sertanatly bad for your mounts because of movements and most important vibration. I normally get to 3k rpm but sometimes its lower and sometimes its higher.
