Soon to be new to the Evo community

Hey all. I am looking at getting a 06 Evo MR. Are there any things that I need to look for in this car they may be a issue? It has 35k miles. The guy is having the alternator replaced and said it just went bad. He also said that the first few shifts from 1st to 2nd you have to be easy because it will kind of lock you out. I had a similar problem with a 05 WRX I had so not sure if it is anything to be worried about. But any other things that I can check out would be great. Thanks

^^ these things should not be a problem with a well taken care of evo. You should see my 03 evo with 165k on it.....stock alternator and 1st and 2nd work llike a charm......oh well. I say look for a better used one. gears shifting under boost would be a good indicator or any tranny problems.

Congrats on your interest in the Evos and welcome to the community.

When he says that you have to be east from 1st to 2nd, is he talking about driving hard, or just normal everyday driving? Either way, it sounds like a clutch or tranny problem to me. Id also take it to a reputable garage that normally deals with Evo's (if possible) and have them check it out.

He said that it goes into gear fine first thing but you have to let it kinda fall into second. After the first couple it is good. But it only happens when it is cold out. As far as the alternator, Maybe he drove around with a 1/2 dead battery for a few and ended up killing it.

alternator just sounds like something fishy. As far as the gears if its like every other mitsu i have owned or seen, the tranny has to warm up properly to go into gear with ease. def test drive warmed up first

I talk to Mitsu dealer today and they told me the same thing about the tranny that it is normal. Said they were unsure or the alternator. I asked him today if it had ever had any system in it and he said yeah it did for awhile but he took it out a few ago. So I am guessing the system just wore it out. I know I wore out a brand new one on a 2000 ranger I had in a year. I am going to take it to the dealer and get them to look everything over when he gets it running. I hope everything is good on it because I really want that car lol.
