Spoiler or No Spoiler

What's up everyone,
I want to get an opinion from just evo owners. I am thinking about getting the OEM high spoiler along with the vortex generator or should I stay wingless?

I am a major proponent of the wing and think that the Evo just doesn't look right without it.

HOWEVER, on an RS, I completely disagree with myself. I think it's just wrong to have an RS, which is purpose-built to be a no-frills racing machine. Adding the wing (and especially the MR-only VG) just changes it's entire personality and seems wrong to me. The RS is what it is for a purpose, and adding cosmetic stuff from other models isn't necessary. Yes, OF COURSE, the wing (and the VG) is functional...we all know that...but the RS is actually capable of going faster WITHOUT it due to less drag when drag racing. Road racing is another story...the spoiler is more helpful then.

I like being wingless because from a glance from the side it looks like a regular lancer. Yesterday some idiot in a 2005 rsx type-s pulled up and tried to race me. So I went with it. When he caught up with me 2 blocks down he was like do you feed that thing. I told him to look at the front of my car and it will answer your question!!!
But in contrast when you think EVO. You think huge spoiler. It changes the whole look of the car. If I were to put a spoiler on the car it would be the last thing I do. I rather put money into performance and handling first then looks.

There you go. How much is the wing and vg going to run anyways? There's got to be something else you need that would get you more WHP.

Yea the Evo really doesn't look right without it. The spoiler is a major feature in the styling of the car and to just take it away just kills the general apperance...

If you're going to add a spoiler then obviously you want the downforce so you might as well just upgrade to an aftermarket spoiler with more downforce. (unless you think regular wings are ugly and only the EVO wing looks good) It'll probably be cheaper than an OEM one. And if you do decide to get a spoiler definitely get the VG. it does serve a purpose. It's your choice though. What do you want to drive... a family sedan will balls( aka the RS with no spoiler or VG) ( i personally would never get an RS. My girlfriend and i were driving down the highway one day and she was like, isn't that one of those EVO's you're so in love with. Then she went on to say how they're "cute" and they probably make good family cars because they're AWD so they're safe. it didn't help that the fat guy with his family in the car was going only 65mph in a 70mph zone. I tried messin' with him and the only thing it accomplished was me getting run off the road by some guy in a trans am), or a 4 door sports car that everyone knows exactly what it is and that it's fast as hell ( aka spoiler plus VG).

i just got off my wingless phase and lookin at it now im glad its back on but if u dont have one from factory (rs) then i dont know why you should worry about it. Theres cheaper alternatives if indeed you need downforce for road racing. but if u want to keep it lookin stock than go for it. When i lower my car and put some rims on it or somehtin ill go wingless just because i prefer the look, ,but if i atend a track day or something ill throw it on, why not. Its up to you in the long run

If someone was a fan of the daily driven sleeper, and wasn't too serious with track events (AutoX and drag), would removing the wing affect the overall performance noticibly? I assume not, and realize it DOES serve a purpose. But I can't imagine it serves much of one on a stock car with an average driver, daily driven on public roads. Just curious.

No, in that case, it wouldn't serve much purpose, but then what would be the purpose of owning the Evo?

To have a fun/spirited daily driver? I think that's fair.

I say poop to that, but that's because I'm a track junkie and realize that you can never do anything on the street that remotely resembles pushing the limits of the Evo. I didn't know until someone finally invited me to my first auto-x...and then first road race...now I'm hooked for life.

Which, in all honesty, I'm sort of expecting to be the case with me. But I sincerely DO want my warranty...for as long as possible. Until I'm in a place where I have some WORK space, I'll be scurred to really touch my car. And, I know rumors are rumors, but a few of my RL friends have commented on how gung-ho Mitsu is about keeping the Evo's off the tracks (under warranty). I don't know what lengths they go to, to...insure warrantied vehicles aren't on the tracks, but the notion of spending $150-350 on a track event (all depending) to have my warranty voided makes me sad.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but without it the rear would lack a considerable amount of downforce, and seeing as the weight distribution is 60:40 front:rear, the rear end would feel loose unstable without it.
