hey everyone. i am wondering what makes your cars such power houses. what i mean is how do you guys make so much power with a simple TBE? i do know that you have a bigger turbo to start. what is it evo3 16g?
i am relatively new to the whole car modding scene. ive had my WRX now for about 4 years now. and that was the first car that i ever modded. i am just trying to broaden my horizons when it comes to this stuff.
sorry about the title. nothing else comes to mind.
you own a subaru, that is the first mistake. Even if it was a STI, they have major turbo lag issues because why would you pay the competition to make your turbo, lol. All busting your chops aside......Our turbo is not a evo3 turbo we have the newer version of the turbo's the 03-05 is a 16g turbo. we make a good amount of power from simple boltons but that is with the proper tuning and a MBC. turn up the boost. i am putting down over 400awhp with the stock turbo pump gas alky injection, it's all in the tune. I have all the basic boltons and cams.
If your looking for power do a exhaust with a uppipe and downpipe. then do a STI top mount intercooler, fuel pump, MBC, intake and a solid tune....check out openecu.org for free tuning software!
i have a 03-wrx with a PNP 16g boosting at 21 PSI, turboxs FMIC, deatchwerks 650s, gutted uppipe and an autospeed TBE and currently running open ECU tuned by DSG. my highest pull on that dynp was 256WHP i beleive and like 260 FT/LBs.
i have heard with simple bolt ons and a tune on pump gas you guys were throwing out numbers in the 330-340WHP range. i was just wondering why there is such a difference in power out put begin both are on 2.0 liter engines.
I don't want to sound like i'm bashing but how many 1000hp subarus do you see. The 4g63 is a beast of a motor stock. With mods and a good tune your talking serious hp and tq from us. I have a feeling that your problem lies in your tune. I know wrx's and sti's making way more power with your current mods. No matter what car if its not tuned correctly you can have the biggest turbo and you'll make shit for power. Good luck.
also look into how many 8 sec subys there are.....none that i have seen.......its all about the tuning i can leave people with evos and upgraded turbos......
yea i know my numbers are very low but DSG has one of those heartbreaker dynos. its not a mustang but its very similar so i have a feeling that is why my numbers are so low. i did alot of research and matt from DSG really knows his stuff.
but i wasnt trying to start a conversation saying which is a better car i was just asking in simple terms why is it that you guys make so much power. better flowing heads? higher CR? i personally love EVOs but they were out of my price range and i have always wanted a WRX. each has there pros and cons. and i know there are alot of 1000hp EVOs. but with money you can make just about any car 1000HP. there is a video of a 7 sec STi on youtube.
i also wasn't trying to make it seem like i put all this stuff on my car why don't i have your numbers. i simply asked this question for learning purposes. you know in case somebody asked me i can tell them the answer.
I didn't take it that way like you said some dynos just make the numbers low, it happens. Try to find another dyno facility and pay for acouple passes to see if the numbers are correct.
The 4g63 is a stout motor, cast iron block with forged internals is god when it comes to boost. The ej series motor is also limited as far as rpms. The evo with proper valve springs, cams, and destorked can rev to 10,000rpm no problem which allows us for more power in the high rpms than yours. Now when it comes to torque you subies have us. I remember a turbo magazine acticle going over two subies and both were making over 550hp and tq and the damn dyno sheet looked like a freakin cliff, the hp and tq numbers just shot strait up and fell off a little, crazy power for the street.
Every engine is different so don't expect the same goals, even two evos with the same setup can make different numbers.
so on a basic stage two setup IE: TBE, and a tune(not sure what is considered stage two is for evos) how much boost do you guys run? 25PSI? or there abouts.
i dont really think we have whats considered stages. Intake, TBE, MBC, Fuel Pump, and tune. these are the most basic boltons. anyway depending on the year you can run 22-24psi on the stock turbo and even more if you run alky injection but the turbo is very ineeffecient above 25psi.

wow man your harsh... nothing wrong with subies... unless you dont like reliability... haha just messin wit yah...
but really you dont wanna put a mbc on a wrx. no need for it when you get a propper map. my 06 protuned stage 2 (tbe, k&n, filter, tune) made 252whp and 309wtrq with just 17psi, and no lag at all full boost at 2900 in 4th (thats what happens when you have a tdo4)... all you had to say siclanevo is 4g63. that is all the answer he needs! lol... it is like the lsX (GM V8) blocks of 4cyls. best 4cyl block out there... also i would hope it would be that good its been in buisness since 1990 lol...
I said it because the subys dont hold up as well i have seen so many issues with them. I like the new 08 sti's but i wouldn't own one. I have never seen a real reliable suby, i have seen stock ones take out trannys in 5k.....and that is the wrx the sti has a good transmission. the 4g63 is tried and true. It has been proven numerous times for over 1000hp mark. also there are some that are still driven on the streets that do 8's the first suby in the 8's was just recently, it has taken forever. try changing out the plugs lets make it harder then it has to be.....a built suby motor is great but it does take a lot of money to do, more then the 4g63

My last post in this thread was 3 months ago...
guess i shoulda looked at the date haha... yea no doubt the 4g is the best 4cyl out there... and yea your right about the trans, its not like an sti's where you can launch it crazy, if you take care of it it will take care of you.. but it is still somethign that is always on my mind...
i have seen subys that are not turbo with no mods fall apart and at 40k the dealer couldnt even tell them why the check engine light was on and said they would have to deal with it, lol. This car had all services done from day one.
WRX's and evos are not neck and neck unless you are talking strickly about the STI and evo.....
