From WRX to EVO- Why?

I am seriously considering trading in the Subie for an EVO. I like the way it rides and I like the engineering( forged internals, front-mount vs. top-mount intercooler, no stupid cat in the uppipe, among others ). Anybody else gone from WRX owner to EVO owner? What were your reason(s)?

I didn't ever have a WRX, but I have always thought they were nice cars. Reasons to go from it to an EVO...well in my opinion the top reason would be handling, the Evo just does period then you get coilovers for it and damn...they are similar cars though EVO, STi, WRX...they are all similar, I guess the modability of the 4g63 is really nice too...but I'm coming from an Eclipse so it really isn't any change.

The handling on the WRX and EVO are similar. The WRX is tuned a little more for off-road style driving in dirt and gravel, while the EVO has a stiffer suspension and different ratio with the steering wheel that makes it better for the street.

Also, I've been hearing really bad things about the WRX tranny. I'm used to being around DSM guys and hearing about the bad mitsu tranny, but from what I hear, the subaru one is even worse and SOA does everything they can to deny warranty work on it. That would irk me if I owned one.

A plus for the EVO is the proven performance of the 4g63 in previous EVOs and the DSMs. They can make good power without throwing too much money into them. And I've never really understood why Subaru wanted a top-mount intercooler. It has always blown my mind how it wouldn't heatsoak incredibly quickly sitting right on top of the engine. Plus, I think the EVO looks better even if it doesn't look as good as the old EVOs.

I had an 02 WRX wgn and loved it. My mistake was taking a ride in an EVO and STi. There was no comparison to my modded WRX. Both the STi and EVO were just better. I desided on the EVO because of the better handling and the ease and cost of engine mods. There are tons of choices with the 4G63 and not very many with the STi. Go drive an EVO and STi and you'll be ready to turn the keys in on your WRX.

Personally I would leave the suspension stock. I don't think I will ever max out the abilities of the STOCK syspension to the point that I need aftermarket parts unless I learn a hell of a lot more about performace driving. You are better off spending your money on a driving school.

true, driving school helps...but when people already have a lot of experience with people that have been racing for the past 10 years (Mike at DSS) and your keeping up with them...racing school isn't as much of an advantage as it is for beginners...more experience is an advantage.

and yes the stock Evo suspension is AWESOME all hands down it is great. But, you put a nice Cusco coilover set on it and you get some nice adjustablity, then it is even better, you can adjust it for different tracks and make it less "streetable" or street friendly when your there to get that extra second around the track.

I think an even better mod for the Evo as far as handling would be some nice 275's...Tires make a world of difference...but the stock Evo tires are really good too...275s would be better though

realizes* analogy between two above paragraphs...

Well, all it took was one test drive and the Subie has been replaced... Wat a ride the EVO is! Sweet is all I can say. I did drive the STi also, but it still underteers( like all WRXs ) and the corners dip a little more than the EVO in hard turns. So, I have 'Evolved'... Hopefully the transfer case holds up( been reading about some problems others are having ), but wat a ride!

Did you actually purchase yet? If so, change your profile! It says "non-Evo". Get some pics up

Kick ass!

What color? Wing? Sun roof? Gauge pack? CD changer?

Give up the info!

Just looked at your profile...

Is that black one with the wing yours or just a file photo you pulled up from somewhere? Looks like you have the wing, but I can't tell from the pic if you have the sunroof. Also I (obviously) can't see interior options
