easy o2 housing install
this is the fastest way i've done this install. a lot of people take off the radiator and remove the whole turbo/ manifold assembly. this is a lot easier and a lot cleaner.
install time: about 2 hours- 3hours
tools needed: 12mm socket, 14mm socket, 12 and 14mm open end wrenches, 10 mm socket, jacks stands, and vice grips.
step 1:jack up the car and set it on jack stands. disconnect the o2 sensor wire under the spark plug cover. remove all the heat shield bolts (12mm) including bottom heat shield.
step 2: drop the tie bars and the downpipe.
step 3: while you're under the car, remove the bolt that holds the o2 housing to the block (14m)
step 4: remove the exhaust manifold bolts (12mm outside 2 nuts are 14mm)
step 5: remove the nuts and bolts that connect the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold (14mm)
step 6: remove the exhaust manifold and remove the V-band clamp that connects the turbine side of the turbo.
step 7: remove the clip on the wastegate actuator to the wastegate. remove the turbine/o2 housing assembly from the center housing. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE TURBINE WHEEL!! doing so can destroy your turbo.
step 8: remove all the bolts off of the old o2 housing (14mm). use a good strong set of vice grips to remove the 02 sensor. it seems this is the best way to do this instead of using a 22mm o2 sensor socket due to the fact that the o2 sensor is torqued on so hard.
step 9: install the new o2 housing to the turbine housing. and reinstall the wastegate actuator clip.
step 10: install the new assembly back on to the center housing being careful to line up the nipple back to the hole on the center housing. reconnect the V-band clamp.
step 11: reinstall the exhaust manifold to torque specs. reconnect the o2 sensor wire.
step 12: reconnect downpipe and tie bars.
step 13: reset the battery, and go for a test drive. when the car cools back down, re-torque all the exhaust manifold bolts. (they most likely loosened with the test-drive)
step 14: reinstall the heat shield, and have fun!!
