My calipers on my '03 have been looking pretty rough as of late so picked up the G2 caliper paint kit from MachEvo. The setup includes some brake cleaner, paint, reactor, brush and stir stick. I started off by taking off the wheels, brake pads and front rotors. In hindsight, I probably should have removed the rear rotors as well but wasn't feeling that energetic. After that, I took a wire brush and removed as much of the old flaking clear coat as I could. I followed that by doing some brief sanding with some 600 grit paper. I didn't do the most thorough of sanding jobs but enough so that it didn't look like total a$$. Next I used the supplied brake cleaner and hit all 4 calipers, before spraying, I did lay down some newspaper to absorb all of the gunk.
With everything cleaned up, I was ready to paint. I added the reactor to the paint, stirred and let it sit for 5 minutes. I applied two coats of the paint and was relatively pleased with the outcome. The smell of the stuff is tough to describe but it was not typical paint! I let it dry overnight and the following morning I applied some Brembo decals that I picked up from
www.xenonmods.com. I then put everything back together and could immediately tell this setup worked out well, I banged on the back side of the caliper while putting the pins back in and the paint did not chip like the factory stuff. That's a plus!
For those that are wondering, the paint is rated to 950 degrees and the caliper decals are good 500 I believe.
Here are photos of the end result after three weeks on the car and a fresh wash. Not the super smooth finishes like they come from the factory but they still turned out pretty good so I'm happy with them. If I would have spent more time sanding they would have turned out much better.
