Alright so yesterday I took my car to the strip for the first time. The best I could manage was two 14 flats. I know my 60 foot sucked, the best I could get for that was a 2.0s but my reaction times were always really good. If it helps to know my MPH was in the 97 to 98 range. I'm gonna go up again today but before I go I was hoping Warrtalon or somebody else with a lot of experience could give me some advice on how to cut my times down. The track I race at is only at 5,000 feet in elevation. The only mods I have done are an HKS intake, Invidia catback, and HKS bov (which I don't want but it was like that when I bought the car), and ACT extreme clutch. The car is a 2006 EVO IX.

I would make sure you have a good tune in the car first of all.
What tires are you running and what do you have the pressure in them at? Getting your
60' time down will help out alot of course but with your mods, good tune, good tires, and a good launch/60' times you should be in the 12's.
Well I took it back yesterday and got a 13.9 @ 99 mph. Still could not get a better 60'. My tires are crappy nankangs that were on the car when i bought it. I didnt touch my tire pressure or check it for that matter. What would you reccomend? Also, they werent letting us run in the groove and the front tires almost always spun off the line.

Why wouldn't they let you in the groove? I went all the way down to 20 psi on my 615's and the best I could pull was a 1.7 60' time. I would try 24-26 to start out.

Something about it would pick up the rubber left by the cars with full slicks and wouldnt allow them to hook as well. I thought it was BS but I could be wrong. Thanks, next season I'll have to try messing with tire psi. Tracks closed now until april
Start out with your tires around 29 in the front and 26 in the back. If the tires peel out drop 1 pound er tire until you stop spining. What is your 2 step set to?
12's might be hard to reach with such low boost levels. i ran a 12.9 with 28lbs on E-85. But I have an 8 not a 9. You need a good tune if you want to go fast.
Tobz-
It's the factory stationary limiter, which is set at the standard 5,000 rpm.
Mainline-
A tune with a few other goodies will be coming first quarter next year.
Also, I'm not sure if its the elevation or what but I noticed that my car will spike really quick to about 18~19 psi and then drop to about 16~17 psi immediately afterwards. I don't believe this is normal but if someone could help me out that would be great.

My car ('06 IX) does the same thing... my understanding is that the boost will drop at higher rpms due to the size of the OEM turbo. It's exacerbated by the altitude.
FWIW, my best 1/4 time is only 13.379 @ 102.49 mph. 60 ft for that run was a 1.823.
My mods:
drop-in K&N filter
ported OEM exhaust manifold
MR O2 housing & downpipe
MIL.SPEC 3" 100-cell high flow cat
Agency Power 3" catback
manual boost controller set to about 25 psi peak
tune by Justin (JustDSM)
ACT clutch

That sucks, i pulled a 1.6 60" with crappy dunlops, OEM clutch with 85k and 35 launches, TBE, Intake, MBC, fuel pump, and crappy tune. This is on a 03 evo, i ran 13.1 with the clutch slipping and a mis-shift of 4th gear.
My advice get ecuflash and a cable to raise your launch to 6k your 60" will improve.

That's a nice 60-ft time, but you do realize we're in Colorado, where our tracks are between 5500-6000 ft of elevation, right? It's a tiny bit different than running at 500 ft above sea level at Mason Dixon Dragway...
yes i understand that. I think with a higher launch RPM you will do a little better and be taking off in boost so your already spooled in first. It can't hurt. Our track here is not even 500 above sea level, lol.
Alright so I know this thread is kinda old, but this has bugging me. I just don't think that a 2.0 60 foot on a fresh aftermarket clutch or a trap speed of 99 mph is correct for a IX. I mean my shifts are super quick but I am shifting at exactly 7k rpm each gear. Would it help if I shift at a different point in the rpm range? Possibly higher? Does anyone else have any input?

hmm, thats weird, i only ran a 13.2 @ 105 @ 23ibs and I know I could do better since it was spinning off the line. I had kuhmos asx's, didn't mess with the tire pressure at all either. no race gas nor e85. basic mods(tbe, fuel pump), act street clutch/fly and thats it? and i drive an VIII. With race gas tuned and upgraded IC piping, I could hit 12's for sure with better tires.
Oh yea, I'm from Georgia :]
