Boosting kind of low...

Hey everyone...how's it going?

So, today, I finally took a good look at the boost gauge while driving, and I noticed that I'm boosting a little lower than what I've been reading the car should do. I'm still on stock gauges on the MR, so I had to convert bars to psi...anyway, this what I've found:

2-step -- While at a light today, I pushed revs up to the factory 2-step limit of 5k rpms, and the car would only build up .25 bars (ducatipaso.org shows this to be around 3.6 psi). Isn't this a bit low, even for the stock launch limit?

Fast acceleration -- non-launch starts, foot to the floor after starting to roll, and all I'm seeing is about 1.2 bars (ducatipaso.org shows this to be around 17.4 psi). Again, this seems a bit low compared to the accepted numbers on my IX MR, all stock except air filter.

So, is it the weather, or what? I haven't really tried look at boost too much before...I've really been too busy holding onto the wheel when I've hit boost up to this point, heh.

Thanks so much!

K

Not all run the same boost stock. Plus, we have less atmospheric pressure up here, which causes even less boost, though you don't usually see it being lower on the gauge. Another thing is there will be higher boost in higher gears due to there being more load. Don't expect to see full boost in 1st and 2nd.

The built-in 5k limiter is not really for launching and is not designed to build boost. It just does a little bit due to the load that results from bouncing the revs. You see more boost when it gets raised to 6k.

Really, your boost isn't all that low for here. Most of us when we were stock(ish) usually see between 17-19 psi at a max barring a boost spike. This is normal and is it should be (unfortunately).

As for the 5k rev limiter, Warr is correct. All it's really there for is as a driver aid, to be a little less self destructive on the car. (See clutch dumping and drivetrain shock).

Stock I only boost 17.2 psi in 3rd, falling to 14.9 psi at redline.

Taking out the boost pill near the solenoid raised my boost in third to 19.7psi peak, 17.4psi at 7k, in 4th i peaked 21.1psi down to 17.4 at redline again.

All this was done on a dyno, so no guessing here
