car running like crap....help

hey guys,
i have a little problem with my car. it won't boost over 10psi no matter what gear and it acts like its hitting the rev limiter. Can anyone help me with a boost leak test this weekend? it's making me really hate my car right now. I know it's not the wastegate, MAF, sparkplugs or bov so i'm thinking its boost leak or a damaged ecu. If anyone can help it would be great! i'm trying to rule out everything so if anyone has a spare '05 ecu i could try let me know too. any suggestions would be helpful.

thanks
mario

Do you have the stock intake? If so, is your intake snorkel fastened down with both clips? If not, then that's your problem. Take off the snorkel and go test it - it should be fine. If that works, then snag two clips from the trunk lining and use those to fasten down the snorkel.

If the above doesn't apply to you, then I need a MUCH BETTER explanation of "acts like its hitting the rev limiter." what do you mean by that? What rpm does it do it? Which gear? Are all gears maxing at 10psi? The rev limiter cuts fuel and pops loud and fast - you're saying it does this somewhere else in the powerband? How do you know it's not the WG, MAF, plugs, or BOV? Did you change all of those out or test them all somehow?

You definitely don't need someone else's ECU. Plus, they are not interchangeable. Your car won't run with another ECU without changing the immobilizer code and having it re-keyed at Mitsu.

sorry i thought my mods were in my signature but i guess not. 3076R turbo, buschur deluxe intercooler, 272 cams, 780cc injectors. the wastegate, bov, and plugs have been tested and they are not the problem.

when it acts like it hits the rev limiter it has a popping sound that's fast as soon as reaches 10psi it no matter what gear it does it. usually it's at 4500rpm. the strange thing is that if i give it a little gas it will go all the way to redline.

Sounds exactly like fouled plugs. How exactly did you "test" those parts? The only way to test plugs is by replacing them. If you haven't already, toss in some fresh NGK BPR7ES or BPR8ES gapped to .026 or so...

i took to street concepts and they checked out the parts. we swapped the MAF, boost controllers, tried no controller and tested the wastegate. i already swapped out the stock plugs for BPR8ES gapped at .027, then at .024 and it didnt help.

brp i'm in glendale a couple miles from Cherry Creek mall.

You were on the stock plugs still with all these mods, and then you changed to BPR8ES after this problem began, and nothing changed?

Other than ignition (plugs, coil packs, or plug wires) or a huge boost leak, there's no reason I can think of for the car to start sputtering as soon as you try to hit full boost. To rule it out, I'd swap plug wires with another Evo - that doesn't take very long.

How does it idle? If it idles smooth then I would say its not ignition.

the problem started on stock plugs and then i went with BR8ES still the same problem. the car idles just fine. Justin tried do some road tuning but no luck. He really didnt have a lot of time to diagnose the issue but he has seen it first hand.

Nah, ignition (includes plugs) problems can surface under heavy boost and not at idle.

Right but if he had a fouled plug he would know it before he made it into boost. The car would have no power and would sputter all over the place.

Not at all. That's what I'm saying. Most of the time, you don't know the plugs are fouled UNTIL you go full boost. It happens all the time that way on Evos and DSMs. It idles and drives fine. Hell, it even will boost at higher rpms fine, but at peak boost, it sputters. That's when it's time to change plugs. I have yet to have plugs foul to the point that my car suffered at idle or off-boost. I change them as soon as I notice at peak boost, which is every 3-5k miles or so (coppers)...

Yes. No.

The plugs can foul to where you only notice at full boost and NOT at idle. I explained in more detail above.
