So this may be a dumb question, but what is the difference between a 05' VIII turbo and a IV turbo?

HA! CAUGHT!!! Well when you do something to Clayton's car I need to be there to see that, or atleast to release the pressure off your head before it pops.

I'm assuming you mean the IX turbo. If that's the case..

The IX has a larger compressor housing. The CHRA (the center section) of the turbo is identical to that of all all EVO's IV-IX. Meaning the compressor and turbine wheels are identical. The turbine housing is the same part used on the '05 model cars. The 10.5cm^2 single flapper. The "extra" power from the IX turbo is associated with the compressor housing alone. There are quite a few other little tidbits that allow the IX (as a whole) to produce more power than the VIII's, but thats another topic..

I think some words got mistranslated... I never though I even had a car.. But I was in 5th by the time you passed me, and I was shifting at 7K. The gear ratio's are published for the IX.. I'm sure you can do the math and figure out my speed

Or do I need to make a video? LOL

That was the first pull and you were shifting a good 2-3 seconds before I was and my trans has the Evo 9 1st, 2nd, and 4th gear set. The two runs you misshifted I was right along side ya

All in good fun..

I need a way to calm my nerves before I go to the track.. I always get so damn antsy and botch a shift trying to be like Shep himself..

LOL I hear ya. That first run I was a bit spun up but after a bit I calm down and focus on driving. Trust me, there's plenty of ugly time slips from me mis shifting due to nerves!

John, the 05 has the 10.5, too, but then the IX has the improved compressor housing. Also, there is a little more to it internally that is different, because I tried to just upgrade the compressor housing on my 05, and it wasn't possible according to the turbo builder who does this sort of thing for a living. They had already taken both apart and tried it, but I don't know the details of what else is different internally.

Interesting Clay.. I've been told otherwise. But I've not confirmed.

Yeah IX turbo, that's not the first time I've said IV. I was just confused on the actual turbo difference, that helps... thanks

I know for fact you can't put a 2003 8 exhuast housing on a 9 turbo. Tried it on a buddy's car when he stripped the O2 housing bolts doing a ported swap. The 9's exhaust turbine is bigger than the 8's

That is not true, because I put my ported/coated 10.5 hotside from my 05 onto my IX, and then I put the IX hotside on my 05 turbo. They are interchangeable. The IX hotside is bigger than the 03/04 hotside, but they should still be interchangeable just like the 05s are.

Justin, I don't have confirmation either, and I believed what you believe until they said they couldn't build it for me. That sort of explains why no one has done it either, I think. Have you heard of anyone who actually did it?
