Crankcase Breather or Catch Can ?

As many of you know, the stock Crankcase Breather routes back to your Intake. Unfortunately there's a good amount of oil released back into your intake, which probably isn't the best for your turbo.

Any opinions on which route is best:

- Filter -> Atmospheric Release - No Vacuum

OR

- Catch Can w/ Return line to Intake -> Under Vacuum from Intake

I'm getting mixed opinions on this. Some people say you need the vacuum pressure from the Intake to draw the oil away from the Crankcase in order to prevent sludge buildup. What are your opinions?

I just ordered my oil catch can.... breather u would get crap and oil all over the place, so catch can it is. for me, and it looks cleaner if you do it and put in a good place.

I'm leaning towards the catch can setup. But probably going to make my own using an air compressor filter from Home Depot. For $12.00 you can't complain

After taking a second look at your Catch Can Bam, I'm not sure it's going to work properly since it's above the Crank Case valve outlet. Meaning the oil would have to travel upwards against gravity. I'm not sure the Intake provides enough of a vacuum to pull the sludge all the way up to the can. What are your thoughts?

PS: How do you drain that Mofo?

Steve there is no pressure drawing it out it is vapor almost. so thst is what it catches. not a quart or anything. How much do you think is moving thru there? Let me know and I will show you my car and explain it in detail to you some time.

Well I just ran a quick test. Drove about 10 miles with a filter on the Crank Case Valve, I'd say there was about 1/2 a mL of oil that came out in that time, maybe a little less. I realize it's not much, but the whole point of the catch can is to gather all the oil. I just find it hard to believe that even a small amount of Oil Vapor is going to be able to travel all the way up to the can without condensing somewhere along the line. Since the vacuum isn't that great coming from the intake I'm not sure some of this oil isn't returning back to the Crank Case.

Yeah its a small amout, but it will be pulling it up. even if it does sit high it should be able to go all the way up.
