Well this is my problem when my 2005 evo 8 was stock, i took it to the 1/4 track at scribner,ne and ran a 14.0.... then i added a AEM CAI, BR MBC, Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump, and a Forge BOV, then got a mail in flash from Dyno flash... i then took it to the track ran it 4 times and got a 14.1, 14.3, 14.1, and a 14.0..... so i thought "OK LETS GET IT ON!!!!" so then i got a BR CAI, BR full exhaust, BR intercooler pipes, BR race FMIC, HKS 272 EX/IN cams, APR head studs, BR short throw shifter then got a mail in flash AGAIN from Dyno flash.... took it back to the track and with a prefect launch, awesome shifting and (i dont think it is possible to get better than this in my car) I ran a 13.2.... i spent $6,000 to drop .8 of a second ... that just seems wrong....
Well colorado springs isnt my only option i see that he is going ot Chicago on the 29/30 of july and the altitude there is 1600.. the only thing is i hate waiting that long, because this is my daily driver and i need to make sure i am not hurting the car the way it is now. i do have a few questions.
If i get my car tuned at colorado springs (6000 feet) and then bring it back to sioux city (1100 feet) will it hurt my my engine?
How bad will it hurt my performance?? in the 1/4 mile will it be like 1/2 second less than it should be? more? just an estimate or a guess

There's no way to answer the questions. The point is that the Evo performs drastically different at 6000' and 1000'. If you get custom tuned here, it will N OT be perfectly tuned for 1000'. I don't know if it would make you dangerously lean or dangerously rich - we just don't have enough empirical data on that. What I do know is that up here your stock turbo will taper to 16psi no matter what, but down in Iowa, it probably only tapers to 19-20psi. That makes a big difference in how much fuel and timing is used from 6000-7500rpm.
You've gone this long - I'm sure you can make it a few more weeks and do the Chicago trip. That would be my recommendation.
i think you are right, i will call Al and see if i can move my July 8th appointment to a chicago appointment on Saturday late evening like 6pm or so. I am glad you pointed this out thank you so much for the info and letting me know about the altitude thing... i hope i can move my appointment without it affecting the deposit i sent
ok i just called Al and i worked everything out with him, i will be coming to Colorado springs, on the 8th of july at 6pm. i will be getting to the place i need to be an hour or two early just cuz i like want to look around.....

See you guys there
Al said not to worry about it, or are you also going to meet him in Chicago to check the tune?
i am going to meet AL in colorado to get tuned then when i get back ot Sioux city the following week i am going ot take the Evo to ThunderValley 1/4 mile track and run it and see if i can get a better time, i will run it til i get a perfect launch and shift and until i feel it is the best i can do and see how much better it is.... if it is alot better i will call it good... but if it isnt any better or worse then i will go to chicago... But Al reassured me that he should be able ot figure out where i am losing horse power.... I did a pressure check of the system already and will do one more before i leave bt i was wondering is there someone there that could double check it for me when i get there if i get there a few hours in advance??? Also is ther a 1/4 mile track open Saturday night close by????Kind of hoping i could run it there too just to see if i feel a difference... i should be able to feel a difference if he finds my missing 60 to 100WHP right???

Actually, yes, I plan on doing MBC installs and boost leak test for several guys right in my garage (I live in town), so you can show up early and come to my house so that I can doublecheck everything.
We can even do a compression test really quick.
PMI is open about 35 miles south of us on Saturday and Sunday, but it's NHRA nationals. You can get in and race, but you'd probably have to pay for a bracket racing class just to get some test runs, of which you'd probably only get 2-3. The other problem is you'll run at least half a second slower here than your best time in Iowa.
warrtalon,
i PMed you a message. i got a question though, since i have had 2 mail in flashes then my cost will be $300.00 right? since i am an existing customer?? is it $300.00 minus the $100.00 deposit??? so I have to pay $200.00 in colorado springs? also what does Al except as payment at the tune in Calorado Springs? Cash, Check, money order, credit card?
Drew, yes, you pay $300 total, which means you pay $200 more after the deposit. You can either paypal the other $200 anytime before the tune, or you can bring $200 cash and give it to Al when you get tuned.
Hash, certainly, I prefer that you get a boost leak test done before the tune so that we can ensure maximum power with no problems. Everyone can come to my house, but be advised that the way I do it is I SHOW you what to do while you do the wrenching. Then, I'll setup the compressor and help with the test itself. That keeps me from doing all the work on a bunch of cars.
If anyone else needs my address, let me know. There's probably not going to be a specific time on Saturday. I'll be home all day, but I don't yet know how many people will be coming by. I'll only not be home when I'm at the shop making things are running smoothly with the schedule.
Warrtalon
I will call you from my cell phone once i get into colorado springs and check into the hotel. My wife is staying at the hotel she is not to fond of the attention the Evo gets, but i dont blame her.
You should definitely bring her to the house and meet my wife and 7-week-old son. That would be a shame for her to stay there. Now, if she doesn't want to hang out at the shop afterwards, I can understand, but she's welcome to hang out at the house or maybe get shown around town if she'd rather not sit in the hotel being bored.
