It's been 10 years since I lived in CO, but I used to just go in and talk to the prosecuters myself and ask them to "amend" the ticket. It still works in Kansas. I save a lot in Lawyer fees.
Speeding tickets will amend to a non-moving violation and stays off your record. As far as a reckless ticket, they might not amend it that low, but maybe to a lesser charge for less points. Definetly try for the non-moving violation first.
If I was you I would go to your first court date and talk to the prosecutor yourself. If they will work with you, then great, you saved money. If they won't do anything for you, no harm, just ask them to give you a continuance, new court date, and then use a lawyer.
If you not sure what to expect going yourself, I would call a random lawyer, or 2, in the phone book and ask them what they can do for you. They should be able to tell you if they can get it taken off completly, like to a non-mov v. or that it would get dropped to a lesser charge. What ever they could do for you, is what you should be able to get from the prosecutors yourself.
Hope that helps. Good luck.
