Car seat in the back for me, so I wouldn't get any type of roll cage until it isn't a DD. I'd seriously only want a roll cage if I wore a helmet whenever driving (ie, racecar). The added "side impact protection" doesn't do much if you smack your mellon on a steel bar and crack it open.

I think mine will be a racecar within the next few years, so I like hearing about the different options.

I agree w/ Mrich82, a piece of chromolly does certain things to the grey matter. I wouldn't like to wear a helmet when I drive, I also don't see my wife or friends beeing to keen on the idea.

I wouldn't go cage, I would do the harness bar.

I'm wondering who would weld in a harness bar? Almost seems like it could be a huge liability if it were to snap during a side impact. This is a hard decision for a dd.

The harness bar bolts in the B pillar, and triangulates to the floor in the rear passenger compartment. All bolts / no welding.

Cages get welded in.

Actually my roll cage is connected to the cherokee unibody in at least 16 spots. Now that I'm home I got to count them. In fact there's so many, my roll cage is probably holding the unibody together instead of the other way around. But this is for insane rock crawling, and not going fast like the Evo. You'd have to see the beast in person to understand.

Ok people here is the cage I am going to build you can DD the car and still use the back seat plus your head is not going to hit the top bar it is located behind your head.
P.S. the Cusco bolt in is also one you can use the back seat still.

Steve, i can understand your concern about saftey, but if you are this worried about the saftey of your DD, maybe an evo wasnt the best choice?

GGEvo, To be honest I didn't discover these safety issues with the EVO untill after I purchased my car. Regardless, I would have still probably bought the car. I believe based on todays standards the side impact rating for the EVO is on par with just about every other car out there. Atleast I hope. The only reason it gets a low rating is the lack of side airbags. I'm not totally sure on this, but it's a guess. And I'm okay with this, as long as these EVO's compare with other cars out there on their structural integrity.
