Potential Issues with chopped air box?

Okay, before I get flamed for this, I have searched all around and found very little information regarding this topic, so I wanted to ask my fellow rmevo members before I actually do anything. I don't have the money right now to mod my car at all right now, so I've been trying to think of things that I can do either inexpensively or for free, which is when I had the thought of chopping the stock air box. Now I know that the stock air box is supposed to be the best for the car up to like 400hp or something, but I'm wondering what (if any) negative things would happen to my car if i were to cut the top of the stock air box to expose the filter. I know it would make my turbo spool sound a bit louder, which is the main reason I'm considering it, but what else would be affected aside from the sound? I would assume there would be more airflow, but that would also mean that it's taking in some hot air from the engine, so how badly would this affect my performance? Also, would this need a tune if I were to do it? I just wanted to consult everybody before I actually do this, because I know swiss-cheese mods were popular with I think the 1st gen dsm's, but I don't know about the evo's.

P.S. - I not a damn ricer btw, lol. I just love hearing that turbo spool up

Chopping the top off would essentially leave you with an intake similar to the ARC intake. Without a tune it is doubtful you will see any performance gains. However, you probably won't notice any real performance loss either. I am not saying that there wouldn't be any loss, you just wouldn't notice it. So, if you really want to hear the turbo spool this would work. You will probably notice your BOV more than the spool anyway.

Remember you can get a Buschur intake for under $100. Lucas or Tobz could hook you up with a minor tweak to your stock tune to ensure it runs well at a reasonable price as well.

I also enjoy hearing the turbo spool. I was hooked years ago when I had my Buick Grand National. It had many mods one of which was an intake. I have loved the sound ever since.

i have an intake box that i would be whiling to sell cheap to you. the top is already cut to save you some time if you would like to try it out without having to cut yours and then not have a normal lid any more if you wanted to ever go back for any reason. just pm me if you are interested
