Tranny issues...

Ok so the evo has about 35,000 miles on it and when I go through the gears daily driving I'm fine. It's only when I'm at WOT that I have problems. The gears grind a little as I shift at about 7000rpm and anything passed that the problem gets worse. Sometimes to the point where it won't even go into gear (anywhere near 8000rpm). I think I just need to replace the syncros but I'm not 100% sure. So I thought I'd pick at your brains for some advice, help, input, whatever! If it helps to know what mods I have then they are as follows:

GT35R
AMS Exhaust Mani.
AMS Front Mount
HKS EVC VI
880cc Injectors
Agency Fuel Rail
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
ACT Street Disc Clutch
All bolt ons and supporting mods for big turbo. Stock motor other than cams.

Another question is there a member on here who has a blue VIII with jdm tails and carbon ti that lives in centennial around South Lands area? I ran into her on Arapahoe all the way to Smokey Hill. Just wanted to give a for a sweet ride! I also saw this thread that Tru303SRT posted and came across this picture:

That's me! Wish ya didn't take a picture of my car when it was so dirty I think Smokey clarified later in that it was me, but thought I'd point that out.

Yep Jacks the bomb!! I'm running his Tapered Roller Bearing tranny, worked well for the dsm guys so he asked if I wanted to be his experiment I said sure. Takes awhile to break in but once it is no miss shifts and butter smooth even at 8000 rpm..

Actually we were the first ones to try it in Brians Evo. Just like you said, little tough to break in but shifted like butter after 1000 miles. Worked good until his engine let go so we sent it back down to Jack to check it out.

I appreciate everyone's input on where to take it but does anyone one have a clue as to what could be the problem?

the same thing happened to my evo at about 25000 miles. I would be willing to bet that in a couple of months you wont be able to get it in reverse. My advice to you is to take it to Jack, he does a full rebuild for pretty cheep and stands behind his work 100%. He did mine and after a few months it started grinding again, we took it out sent it back down to him and he found out that the input shaft was bent. Didnt even charge me to fix the problem or for the new input shaft, he defenitly will always have me as a customer.

JT...you should have just called me lol...stock trannys are no good above 7000 more often than not. That's why when you see all the famous tranny people advertise they stress on how their tranny will shift smoothly at high revs. Why exactly they are worthless I dunno, you would have to ask a tranny guy. My recommendation is to go with a Shep built tranny, best tranny I have ever had/driven on, not to mention everyone who drives my car is really amazed at how solid and precise it feels.. I have his Tranny and Stage 3 T-Case and I'm launching from 8K like it's nothing. Just watch the axles now that you have good power numbers haha.

Yeah I was thinking of going with a shep. built tranny. What's the power worth if you can't get it to the ground?!

Yeah no joke! I think his Stage 3 is backordered but AMS only uses his stage 2 and they do just fine!

Shep is good but expensive, so Jack is WAY cheaper and just as good if not better

Oh I didn't realize he lives so close to us! Well Lucas... she's driving it like she stole it! Clean car man, I work at the mall too. Back to the tranny subject, is Jack pretty reputable? Money really isn't an issue as long as the work is done right. I'd rather pay the money to have a good job then save some and get hosed in the long run
