I'm going to need another set of tires soon. I planning on getting another set of rt 615s, and have found sets for around $650 delivered. Here's my question... Is there a local place that can get me that kind of deal? If not, where is a good place to get the tires mounted and balanced?
Well, you can get good deals on Discount Tire Direct, but what I've done is just go to the Discount Tire STORE across the street from me and negotiate a total price package that includes the tires themselves plus mounting and balancing. You can avoid shipping costs, since the tires just go to the store as opposed to going to your house. The last time I purchased RT-615s, I determined the price online (included free shipping) then let the clerk at the store know what it was. By the end, I paid just about $40 more than the online price but with warranty, mounting, and balancing. I think it's lifetime mounting and balancing, too, because I've gone back since then to do tire switches (3 sets of rims and tires that I change around sometimes), and they never charged for anything related to tires I bought from them.
PS. I would consider $650 high for these tires unless you're getting 18s. They are usually 125-130 per tire, but I haven't looked in a while. I think I paid right at $570-600 for everything above.

Thanks for the info. Do you suggest any discount tire over another? (I live in south littleton, off of Wadsworth) I'm looking for a set in 245 40 18, so if you know of any deals, let me know!
just in case you or anybody didn't know. I didn't until they told me but tire rack and Discount tires will match each others prices. So if you go on tirerack.com and find some cheaper tires give dicount a call and tell them. just my .02

In this case, Tire Rack doesn't sell Falken, but it's good info.
With 18s, I thought you may have gone wider, since 8.5" is very close to stock thus reducing the performance benefits you can realize from having an aftermarket set of rims. With them being 18s and 18" tires always costing more, it would have made more sense to get 9" rims so that you could then use wider tires that improve performance a lot. Even so, 8.5" will get more out of a 255 than the stock rim, so consider a 255/35 if it's available. 245/40 on 17s are not great compared to stock, but on an 18, it's not as bad. 255/35 is closer to stock in all measurements and gives better gearing than stock while 245/40-18 gives worse gearing than stock and is further from stock measurements, although not far off.
I'd go with a set of BFG Sports if money is a concern. They have great wet traction (unlike the 615) and have a longer treadwear. I've yet to break them loose on the streets.
Of course they have better wet traction and higher treadwear, because they are all-seasons. They have very poor performance relative to summer tires. All-seasons should only be used during the Winter on an Evo in my opinion, else you totally kill the handling during dry days (vast majority of the days in CO). Some people don' mind that, though...
So I kinda am in the market for new summer tires too. I just bought a set of the continentals snow tires this past Jan. So I have some Kuhomo's tires and the couple of times I have launched it the just spin. Now that could be due to a few things 550 hp will spin most tires but I think I could get a stickier tire so the launches are better. Any advice.
I'm not looking for slicks cause snapping a axel right now would kill me. So maybe some advans. I don't know let me know which are a good spring, summer, fall tire with good traction.
Josh, unfortunately the tires that work for drag are not what work for handling. Summer tires as a whole are not good for drag launches, because they have stiff sidewalls. These stiff sidewalls provide great corner stability, because the sidewall won't roll over. However, they suck for drag launches, because you need the sidewall to crinkle in order to get good traction, which requires an actual drag radial or a softer sidewall tire like an all-season.
There are tires between slicks and street tires, and that's all you would want on your Evo anyway - drag radials. Slicks are far beyond what you need, but even a 225/45-17 drag radial on stock tires would let you hit nasty 60's. This would not be a tire you'd use for daily driving, though, so you'd want a spare set of stock Enkeis or something.
so then would a set of Advans work. I don't plan on doing alot of draggin so have a nasty 60ft is not the truly what I am looking for. I don't know man, give me a good recommendation
