Evo 8 Motor Oil

Im coming up on 3000 miles on my evo and its time to change the oil for the first time. What kind of oil do you guys/girls recommend putting in. I heard Royal Purple is really good but if theres anything else thats really good lemme know. Also, what viscosity should I get?

Kenny

AMSoil is hands down the best oil out there period if you need a case give me a call and as far as the weight of the oil they make a combo specifically for turbocharged vehicles

I am now running the mobil 1 max life (15K mile oil change interval) and I will be doing oil analysis every 5,000 miles to see if it lives up to it's name. If it does not live up to it's name I will drain it and use regular Mobil 1 from that point on with 5,000 mile oil change interval.

You might want to read the back of the bottle, I believe it states its not made for high performance vehicle with high heat, which is what are cars are designated as.

Mobil is good but its still recycled mineral oil with synthetic additives, not truly synthetic or heavy duty. Amsoil, motul, and royal purple, all full synthetics and good oils imo. I havent done the research in a while but search around for the oil bible some where out there on the net. The numbers show what the oils are up to and how they perform. The amsoil ranks very well. I have been running it in my evo since its first oil change at 1k miles. Cycle rider did an oil test on synthetics with a mineral oil as its base, the heat breakdown on most of the oils was terrible, and this was heat that you might see on any given track day. The amsoil and motul seemed to holdup much better than any other oil as far as viscosity is concerned. They cost slightly more than other synthetics but I believe its worth it. If your gonna keep your evo fro the long haul its the mileage later in its life your looking out for. The oils you run will probably have no consequences on your motor in the near future, but when your at 80, 100, or 120k miles on your boosted motor you will begin to see those motors that have been taken good care of and those that havent.
