This last weekend I toasted my head when a small leak sprang up in a coolant hose. Before I noticed the temp gauge it had pegged. I must admit a bad habit of not checking the instruments often enough. I will try to look down at least two times a lap from now on. Since I have the steering wheel adjusted a little low it makes seeing the gauges difficult. Rigging a warning light in my shift light might be a good thing.
Just goes to show even in a "new" car there can be gotchas. From what I could see it looked like some one had inadvertently nicked or scraped the hose while working on the car. Then after enough use cycles the hose split.
