Trying to choose the best intake system.

I'm going to be putting an intake system on my car and I'm having trouble figuring out which is actually the best one. I only want to spend between $200- $300. Thanks for the input guys!

The stock intake system is best unless you intend on going with a larger turbo. $200-300 for a few hp and messed up MAF readings is not my idea of money well spent.

What are your goals? If you're set on replacing the factory air box and it's ability to draw cold air into a sealed box while providing non-turbulent air flow across the MAF, then I can make a few suggestions...

Warrtalon is right. The stock air box and a simple K&N panel will support a significant amount of HP. Can you update your cars profile? That $200-$300 might be better spent on something else

Have you thought about just getting something like the ARC Super Induction Box. Moderate increase in horsepower, no messed up MAF readings, and nobody has it. [edit]removed sales pitch[/edit]

I'm not set on changing the stock airbox, I just want to put the parts on that get the best results. . I don't really know where to start on this car... I did modify my gsx but I don't know if the upgrade path is similar for this car or not. I updated my car profile and would love to hear some suggestions from you guys.

Start with the exhaust; cat-back, test pipe/high flow cat, and down pipe in that order. The upgrade path is very similar to a 2g, except intake work really isn't need until the turbo is upgraded. A simple K&N panel filter will get you pretty far.

I have a quick question.

I am upgrading a turbo on my Evo this week. It has a 3.0 intake and I currently run a HKS RS Intake, which has a 2.5 intake area. Now should I swap it out for a 3.0

or

I have heard that since I am still running the MAF that I may actually benefit from using a slightly smaller 2.5 at the end of the pipe to create a suction, or atleast this is what was told to me by my shop and they told me NOT to swap out the intake. SO it starts at I think 3.0 inches and reduces to 2.5 to create some suction against the MAF.

Any merrit to this statment or would I benefit from using a Buschur 3.0 intake? I think that suction theory works out quite well, BUT I just don't like the idea of a reducer which ironically my kit comes with.

Thanks for the space and replys in advance

What is the inlet size on the turbo? If the inlet on the upgraded turbo is stock sized, the tappered intake pipe is a good idea. An abrupt change in size causes turbulent flow and actually reduces flow. Now, if the new turbo has a 3" inlet you would be better off with a 3" pipe the whole way.

What shop told you should reduce the size the inlet and starve the turbo of air?

Precision Dyno Tuning, he stated that since the MAF is a restriction you want to get a pressure change between the turbo inlet and the MAF, honestly I am not describing it the same way as he did so It might be me. I have seen this bad boy run a 118MPH trap with a reduced intake, WITHOUT cams, it was an 05. So He may be on to something. On the other way, he said use a larger intake vs. the turbo inlet so say you run a 3.0 inlet, the intake should be 4 inches.

IDK, but as long as I am on the MAF I should be ok...

Since you sticking with the stock MAS; the internal diameter is pretty close to 3in., don't reduce it. Get the 3in. intake pipe.
Turbo inlet = 3in.
MAS = 3in.
Intake pipe = 3in.
Smooth mandrel bends and consistant diameters will give you good flow.

Thanks for the advice, Is there any major difference in the upgrade path that I should know about? I just don't want to spend money on meaningless upgrades.

Naw, it's basically the same. Just do exhaust first.
Oh yea, there's no free mods.
