First I will say I am not a automotive mechanic, and I definetly know jack about shocks or struts. But when I got my winter tires put on i was looking around the front wheels and noticed yellow plastic on the shock and on the other side of the car the same peice of plastic was black. Why the different colors?
So I grabbed the cammera and started taking pictures. The passenger side was dusty so I wiped the dust off and snapped a few pics. The drivers side was solid black. But just to make sure I started to wipe it and sure enough under a cool 1/16" of oily tarish blackness there was yellow. So they are the same, I wonder why the one drivers side is so dirty? Oh well. Thanks for the help guys. I have been lurking around here for a while now. This is a great site.
I don't know for sure how, but double check to make sure the shock is not leaking fluid (ie blown shock). When I had my Eclipse I blew out one of the rears and that's when it started attracting dirt and grime like that.
Have you noticed any difference in the handeling?
Can't tell any differences. I actually noticed this, with in, the first week of owning the car (thats when I got the winter tires). I will be going in for my oil change next week I will have them take a look.
