have you checked to see how much oil is in it? in my evo i can tell if the oil is low because the motor sounds like it has lifter tick at idle. I have also heard of too much oil causing the same issue. let us know what you find? did it just start doing it out of no where?

it doesn't do it at idle so i think it is in the transmission and it seems to have just started after the dealer changed the transfluid for me... The axle would tick/click when first pulling out now that is quiet but I have this new sound, but maybe it was doing it before I just couldn't hear it over the exhaust leak that is now also fixed.
yeah man i'm not sure, maybe try to post up a vid or something. does the noise change if the clutch is engaged or disengaged?
It only does it while moving in first gear at about 5 mph and up sounds like a cv joint going out but does it only in first, clutch in or out... at idle the TOB is starting to make some noise...

Reason: forgot to say about the clutch
I'm having the same problem in first and second only on my Evo, did you find out what the problem was? Cheers.
I called shep trans and explained it to them and they said it is rare but most likely that the first gear is damaged/chipped.
The dealer will be looking at it next thursday I will let you all know the outcome. I had to reschedule my appointment so that they could give me a loaner car...
The dealer removed and took the trans apart (no charge to me ...thank goodness) to find one tooth on first gear that was about to break off! So they are replacing firstgear hub/slider and synchro and all the bearings and seals in the trans no charge. While they are in there I am having them put a new clutch disc pressure plate and throw out bearing for just the cost of the parts!! I should be getting it back by the end of this week.
