Question on installing underhood shifter bushings

For some reason I feel silly for asking this, but when installing the underhood shifter bushings, do I need to use any sort of grease to help them slide in easier?

I've been searching for a while now and haven't found an answer either way.

Thanks in advance!

the shifter bushings i installed were made of brass, no grease was needed for the installation. just pop out your old ones and put in the new ones with the clips.

On a couple of cars I've done this for, ocaisionally the brass bushings don't want to slide in. This can be alleviates by taking a small peice of sand paper and cleaning out the inside of the ring of the shifter cables. I then take a little wd40 and wipe them out. Have never had an issue installing them doing it that way.
