new to evo

I hope this is the right area for this post.

So, after 17 years of driving 3000 vr4's, I bought an 2010 evo mr. With the paddle shifter, and the fancy (overpriced) nav system. The Recaro seats work well for my bad back (at least after I'm in them). I've put about 2500 miles on the car, and just put a set of Michelin Alpins on enkei (?) wheels on for the winter. We're getting snow in the mountains outside Seattle, and I'm looking forward to see how this thing works.

I love the car, especially not running the clutch in bumper to bumper traffic. I still haven't figured out how to launch this thing, and it's a bit dead for the first bit trying to leave in traffic. Is there something I should know about this that I'm missing? I've had trans brakes, and side stepped enough clutches to know a lot about u-joints, rear ends and axles, but this clutch without a pedal is new to me. Any advice is appreciated.

Put the SST trans into super sport mode! then the ASC button needs to be held in to turn it off as much as mitsu allows. then put in first left foot on brake and right foot flooring the gas, then release the brake.

Note: if you just push the asc button it will disable it partially, it must be held down for i think 3 seconds to kick in the other "off" mode.

I hopefully will be purchasing my evo X MR in the next year, mine has been delayed again, also check out SSP performance since they are the leader in making the SST trans hold +550whp

Thanks for the launch advise, I didn't think to try the ssport setting and turn off the ACS control.

I'm up to about 3500 miles on the car and I really like it. I'm 60, so I suspect I'm a bit older than the average on this site. The car is fast, livable, and just a kick whenever the traffic thins out. I was pretty set in my ways, and the 3000VR4 is still nothing to sneeze at as a daily driver, so I didn't expect to really like this car this much. I do. I'm still getting used to the soft off line performance, and what appears to be a bit of boost lag (I don't have a gauge installed yet-(advise?). Over the years there's been 5 turbos, one Eaton, and two old McCullough's (ones before they were Paxton, let alone Novi), and they all had different characteristics, so I'll adjust to this.

All in all, I don't think I've had anything as fast, fun and safe, from point to point. And there was a Vette, an early XKE and a old cheap Porsche in there. Doesn't attract attention either, and at my age that's fine.

The MR off the launch and in first gear will limit how much the throttle plate can open at max to not put so much torque on the trans. I have heard off the launch the MR will only open the plate up 50%. Once you do your basic bolt on mods and a good tune you wont have the lag issue your talking about. Also what mode you have the trans in will affect performance and how fast everything reacts.
