No problem Turbolarry. At least there is some one out there that agrees with me.

lol man turbolarry knocked that right down no need to go with just one brand just go to the one that works or if its cheaper also as far as tuners sometimes they just look whats best for you and they dont want to look bad if it falls thru since theyre the one who recomended it imo talk to your tuner and dont hesitate to ask questions.cant have the blind leading the blind you know

The more questions the better. That's why this forum exists; So we learn from each other what really works.

I really thought with the amount of people that thought it cost a boat load of money to make decent whp numbers there would be more responses. Or at least a very good reason why they thought that way. I just hope no one has spent that much money trying to make that power. Before you spend that much please shop around or when in doubt ask someone that knows or can point you in the right direction.

Can't believe I missed this thread!

I spent a total of $6500 on parts for my EVO (until today that is) with the vast majority of the labor being done by me and my daily driver tune for 93 octane pump gas makes 375 wheel HP on a dynapack AWD dyno.

I run the car at this power level every day of the week, and have no doubt it would last years at this power level without blowing up and costing me $5,000 to replace!

I just ordered the GT 35R ball bearing turbo kit from Buschur Racing, along with their alcohol injection kit. These combined should put me around 450 wheel HP on pump gas. Total investment at that point will be $11,000. I could probably make more than that on pump gas with the alcohol injection, but seeing people make 550 wheel HP on the stock bottom end and wanting my stock bottom end to remain in one piece I am "self limiting" my car to 100 wheel HP less than the max I have heard of someone making on the stock bottom end

Later,

Keith

To achieve that you'll probably need some combination of cams, manifold-back exhaust, bigger FMIC, bigger turbo, standalone engine management system, intake system, fuel pump, cylinder heads, and an upgraded clutch to handle the extra power. Probably around $10k-$15k after you factor in dyno time, labour, etc. I'd set aside another $5k if I were you for when the engine blows up, as it inevitably will if you use the car a lot at this level of power.

Maybe you'd be better off trading in for a C6 'Vette?

OMFG you have GOT to be shitting me...

We run that kind of power on stock long block all day long...

the stock turbo has been proven to over 400 whp with a ton of mods, and 350-375 with basic mods... What you are asking for can be done for under $3000 if you (or with a friends help) do most of the work yourself...

My name is Cody, I go by mitsuguy on most performance boards (texasracingscene.com, dsmtalk.com, supraforums.com, etc) Anyways, Blitz, whose name I'm posting under, made around 350 whp on the stock turbo... Mods were downpipe, o2 housing, exhaust, aem intake, AEM EMS, wideband, 880 cc injectors, ACT 2900, and that's about it, oh, we installed 264/272 cams as well...

total cost, including the AEM was about $3500 we did all of the work ourselves, and after a Mark from TT did a baseline tune on the AEM, we got a little more power by tuning it ourselves on the road, and of course more, with race gas... a lot more... stock internals, stock head studs, stock intake manifold, stock turbo (not even the 10.x hotside), and stock exhaust manifold... the car made 343 on the dyno, with more extracted after additional tuning and even more on race gas...

we added a gt35r, and got to 443 whp with 30 minutes of tuning, and now, there's a sheet metal intake manifold and fmic on the car ($1500 tops) and the car should be well over 500 wheel hp with a little more tuning...

so, if you want 350 whp, do the AEM EMS, wideband, and learn how to tune... then get full exhaust, boost controller, and intake, and make around 330 whp... add some cams, and be right where you want to be... you could prolly do 660 injectors, but for your power level, the stock injectors would be ok...

I stand corrected on the dollar amount. I will be much more careful when chiming in on stuff like this in the future. My fear is that people will start believing that it's simple to achieve big numbers and will rush into it without doing a good amount of research. This is a good thread to help people learn the truth.

Here is a basic set up we use to make the power you are looking for

3" Turbo Back
3"Intake w/filter
S-AFC 2
Walbro pump
MBC, Boost controller
HKS 272's
ARP studs
FMIC w/IC piping kit
BOV

With the proper tuning this will be a super reliable set up that has proven to make the power you want.

10.5 hotside----02 housing----Exhaust manifold?

How much does adding the 10.5 improve you power? What about the ported or SS 02 housing? SS manifolds?

Thanks

Thanks

You can't just throw those parts at it and expect power to increase. You can add them, greatly increase your exhaust flow and have the potential to make more power, but it's all up to you and your tune. One guy could bolt that stuff on and lose 5hp while the another guy gains 30hp because he can tune it right. We don't guess here about horsepower; every car is different and there's too many variables.
