When driving in 5th gear, its even weaker. I have to idle pretty high to engage. 2-3k to start cruising. Clutch pedal is not adjusted since its hydraulic, should adjust itself is what my mechanic friend told me. Installed a cone filter after my clutch&fly. Took it off and put the stock airbox back on; same resulting problems still occur. Exhaust backfires once and later again and later again. Engine seems to be struggling as of right now. Could it be running lean? Not enough fuel coming through? Fluids? Somethings clogged up? Car had been sitting in garage a few months before all the new installation. Can't go WOT since I still have to break in my clutch and fly..Been cruisin at normal speeds lately. Last resort is to take it to a evo specialist. Thanks for any advice

Double check all of the intercooler piping and the vacuum lines.
How many miles on the OEM sparkplugs?
Are both coil packs connected?
Hydraulic clutches do have to be adjusted. Your mechanic friend is wrong;
"Every time the clutch or flywheel gets replaced the clutch needs to be adjusted. Many people assume incorrectly that since it is a hydraulic system that it does not need adjustment or that it does not need adjustment. Wrong."

Yea, it's written for a DSM, but it's a Mitubishi hydraulic system just the same.

Sounds exactly like the MAF is not plugged in or an IC pipe is disconnected.

of course

Yea, Now I know I need to adjust the clutch since so many people had said so. I know that's not the main problem why my car is running weak. Maybe something is loose, it could be! I gotta double check all hoses to make sure. Other then that, I thought about changing my oil? The car had been sitting in my garage for awhile so I thought it could posibbly be that since oil can make your car run stronger. Spark plugs are oem and had been in the car ever since I bought it at 20k. Now I have 47k. Maybe somethings loose but it seems to backfire once in awhile and the engine shakes unusually. Something doesn't seem to be running right under the car. Makes weird noises when I drive around..Any advice, help me out. The clutch&fly wasn't the hardest of them all but it was just time consuming especially the tranny part. As long as I had steps to follow, I was fine. But next time, i'mma take it to a professional instead of letting my car sit for awhile.

The beating sound/backfire seems to be heard from under the manifold. When I turn on A/C on. it tends to beat even more from under the engine and out the exhaust. Tomorrow or Tuesday, i'm goin to give it a more detailed look. Any info will help.. thanks

P.S Maybe the tranny disconnected some wires or hit something while we were trying out best to put it back on. It was stuck on the very back for awhile until we pryed it off the edge.

It is not because of the tune. A cone filter does not cause such behavior.

My only guess is somethings loose. I better find it or its going to a shop near the end of the month. Since they charge hourly.. hopefully it doesn't take that long. Its gotta be under the car cause thats where all the noise is coming from. Gotta check it out tomorrow on my day off & change & flush the oil.

Haven't you already done a boost leak test? That would have been the very first thing to do. Not a single minute should be spent worrying about something like this until AFTER a boost leak test. There is simply no reason for it...

Do a boost leak test. And Yeah a cone filter would not cause this....I was untuned for quite a while with a cone filter and did not have any problems.

Make sure all bolts are put right on the exhaust, and Check the MAF. also in your other post you said u used octane booster? Well My instructer at school was a mitsu tech and he said using octane booster on our cars will cause problems.

1. It will foul up the spark plugs and make it turn bad, they will look fine except a small pink/red blemish on them.

2. It causes cylinder wall damage and ruins the piston seals. so its not recomended to be used and mitsu will VOID a warrenty all becase of octane booster.

Also Compression check it and make sure it has good compression.

Just my 2 Cents in this matter.
