I couldn't stand VIII tailights any longer...

My VIII tail lights were ugly and I couldn't stand them any longer. But being as cheap as I am, I couldn't justify spending $250+ on a set of taillights. What could I do? Paint those suckers! So I went down to Super Autobacs and got me a can of their finest Japanese taillight spray. Taped up the turn signals, used the whole can, and voila...
I'm happy.

Thats a fine job. Looks as good as my Evo VII taillights. If I'd known I go the poor man's route too!

I used the same stuff on my RS, works pretty well.

Just a warning, but after about 8 months, they will dull, unless you have them clearcoated.

Just took them off and painted them from the outside.

evoRSTroy,
Thanks for the clear coat tip. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

gotta help the RS's out

clear coat the whole thing, turn signal and all, it will help reduce the chance of the red lifting an edge on you later. I paint cars for a living, I love clearcoat

Sorry, the can didn't come out to well in the pic. Everything on the can is in Japanese...
... except for "Red Tail Spray" and DIA-WYTE LTD. and their web address;

if you live in the denver area, racing trenz has that stuff in stock, same brand and all
($25 per can, you only need one) southwest corner of evans and monaco.

just mask up what you don't want to paint, and clean the tails with dishliquid soap (removes any wax or coatings) wipe them with denatured alcohol on a lint free rag right before you start to spray.

just apply even wet coats, about 10min between coats (5min or so if it's warm out)

do both tails at the same time, and use the whole can, it will look exactly like larry's

let them sit and dry for a couple hours before reinstalling them. or go have them clearcoated (professional or rattle can, either does the job) first before installing them.

Thumbs up for JDM paint!!! i did the same thing except with testors model paint.. total cost- $6 for both tail lights.. you should have definetly clear coated them.. if you ever want to remove that paint, nail polish remover works wonders..

when you go into reverse, does it look as if you're just applying the brakes?
